ASUS laptop doesn't charge when plugged-in, and shuts down when not

The title is a basic summary of the situation.
Since yesterday, my laptop hasn't been able to function without being plugged-in. So I plug it in. It loads up the error screen instead of a system recovery screen, and I can only restart windows instead of carry on from my past session.
So I get it up and running and browse my daily dose of LMAO pics, wander through the murky waters of the GMF, and occasionally post in the TF2 emporium. Eventually, I'm ready for some sleep, and so I set my computer to sleep. I do that, and at some point in the night, my computer is unplugged, which leads to the immediate shut down. No messages like "Windows is shutting down" or anything. Just the power. Going off.
This happened the night before, when I was moving my laptop from one room to the other. I unplugged it from the power source and instantly, it turned off.
It goes through the vicious cycle of having to restart entirely everytime this happens.
It also doesn't appear to be charging, and the battery icon is in an eternal "63% available (plugged-in, charging)" and never changes.
I've scoured the web, but found nothing helpful. So I thought I'd go here. You guys know stuff.
The computer in question is an ASUS Notebook F50Sf Series.
Oh, I had a HP that did something like this.
Can you remove the battery, but still have it plugged in, and be able to run things correctly?
What, like, take the battery out of the computer while it is running, but keeping the computer itself plugged-in?

Plug in the computer.
Start it up.
Do some shit.
Take out the battery.
Did it turn off?
Plug in the computer.
Take out the battery.
Does it start up?
