A shame it did not say how they caught them exactly. Generally the way to get caught is to download something and open it whilst still connected to the internet. Either that or whats known as a middle man attack (google it I forgot what it actually is)
If I remember correctly they caught the guy that was running Silkroad because he attracted attention to himself in real life. I think that they found drugs on him or in his car and they decided to raid his house and found all of the evidence that he was running the website.
They say their operation sent out a message that you are not untouchable but I wounder if catching these guys even had anything to do with TOR or if they got caught in real life and a raid was done of their houses and they found out that way.
The main guideline with TOR is that it wont protect you while you're not using it.
Communications and transactions thru tor can be p secure but your real life actions leave lots of traces.
TOR is pretty much untracable. The sites are too, provided you don't do anything stupid.
