So, are here any people around with 30 inch monitors? I wonder if these things are worth the prices they cost. I was thinking of getting myself one. Either a DELL ultrasharp or Samsung 305t or Apple 30" Cinema HD Display. They're all 30 inch widescreen 16:10 with a resolution of 2560x1600. A dual-link DVI video output is required to run those on their maximal resolution. I didn't make it to get myself the Samsung 305t on ebay and on amazon (germany), they're out of stock. So I decided bidding on the Apple 30" just for the sake of it. Now I'm still waiting for this thing to arrive. I know they're not the ideal choice for gaming hence the largeass resolution which requires a more expensive gfx card, but fuck that, I didn't buy it for gaming in the first place. Anyone here mind to share some experiences?
I don't have any personal experience with them, but from everyone I know who ones one, the 30" Dells are among the best. Otherwise, it's just a big monitor.
Be careful, I've heard some of them have horrendous input lag.
If you want one for gaming: Don't. They have horrible input lag. Expect SEVERE ghosting. They also normally have a high native resolution, expect upwards of 1920x1200. You'll need a pretty powerful graphics card. Read up more on this somethingawful forum thread. Streetview on 30''s makes me feel like I'm actually there

Also I got a HD4870X2, it supports the resolution.

I'm not terribly keen on the Apple, I've used the 3007WFP from Dell and it's amazing, so is the equivalent HP model. Neither of these has lag or ghosting issues, though reds are slightly strong on the Dell. I would stay away from the 3008 or any other that uses that specific IPS, cause it's laggy as fuck and color gamut sucks, even though it has awesome contrast ratios. Same for the Apple. Anyone who tells the lag is always X is usually talking out of their ass, each model has to be tested with a timer itself to determine how it will perform. You can give a range, but the exact number isn't known until you time it yourself. [editline]16th December 2010[/editline] Also if you're going to be gaming you're going to have a decent enough card anyway, if not you can just lower the resolution on the game.
If you can't handle the resolution, just get an HDTV.
:what:
HDTVs aren't bad... If you aren't sat like 30cm from the screen like some sort of eye cooker. Also, I bet that display you bought looks gorgeous.
I'd rather get a couple of 26" screens instead.
I'd rather get a couple of 26" screens instead.
Rather a couple of 24 or 23" screens.

If you game at less than the native resolution of the monitor it'll look like shit; or at least, that's what I think.

It will. In my and his opinion at least.
Not really as long as you keep the ratio.
perhaps not on your standards, but really with LCDs and plasmas alike, as they use fixed pixels, will look like shit at less than native unless you half the resolution i.e. 2560x1600 -> 1280x800

Also I envy your clean desk.
Good on ya, Romka; makes texturing and modeling and page-design so verah nahce.
Have a wfp3008 at work. Beautiful screen, if I had the spare cash around I would buy 3, has to be 3x1 because I love my 24" 3x1 eyefinity setup.
That apple is a beast. They are all pretty much the same, but the dell has more inputs.

[editline]18th December 2010[/editline] If you're referring to the gloss finish, yes it offsets colors which is bad for professional work where ultra-accuracy is important.
