I'm okay with the current layout Though that may be because I don't have thumbs overly large thumbs
Even though the Dualshock 3 controller is of cheaper quality (It feels a bit cheap, perhaps it isn't) than the xbox controller I bought for my PC, I always prefer using the dualshock controller, it's layout is better to me. I'm glad they sticked with it and just improved upon it.
The new dualshock has more spaced thumbsticks so I'm fine with the current layout.
The 360 controller has always been the most comfortable controller layout I've used so far. It makes it really easy to divide the left hand and right hand to different roles, like the left for 360 degrees of movement and right for aiming or pressing buttons.

Nintendo had this shit down pat.
Nintendo had this shit down pat.
The buttons feel super flimsy, triggers start to wedge a little bit after a while, sticks feel really cheap, especially the smaller one. The octagon shape around doesn't help the shit feeling of the controller. I think nintendo fucked up with their controllers ever since SNES. Wii had the smartest controller they've had in ages. [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] Oh and the handles feel really fucking weird being so thin
Nintendo had this shit down pat.
And now i'm realizing that aside from the unique stylings to the design and buttons, the Xbox 360 pad is similar to the Gamecube controller without the crosspad style for button layout.
I'm gonna catch flak for this but I do like the Wii U Pro and Gamepad. They're very comfy for me. I have tiny hands though.
Glad they didn't go through with it, as I have always preferred the light and symmetrical design of the Dualshock to the bulky Xbox controller. Might have something to do with my small hands though.
I have always preferred the Xbox layout over the Dualshock. My hands always start to hurt after a few hours of using the Dualshock. Also fucking hell, I hope they fixed the weight with the new controller. I feel like I could use it as a kite when I hold a DS3.
Nintendo had this shit down pat.
That controller looks and feels awful. Most modern controllers have such a similar style because it makes sense.
I really really reeeaally hope I can find a third party PS4 controller that has the same stick config as an xbox pad. Dualshock always felt uncomfortable to me. I hate having to keep my thumbs so low down on the controller, they're too long for it to be comfortable. I end up with my knuckles going sore for playing on it too long.
The Xbox gamepad still feels "natural" to use. The thumbs position and triggers go smoothly together. The PS2 controller felt very sharp and small.
Everything bold is an issue of build quality, not an issue of controller layout which is what he was talking about.
There's more flaws to the controller. The handles are shaped poorly, the bit underneath makes it hard to fit a larger hand (like mine) around it, and the controller its self is small. The triggers are uncomfortable, the octagonal joystick mount is obnoxious and the Z button is too small. The only Nintendo controllers that are good in my opinion are the Wiimote+nunchuck (for certain games) and the WiiU Pro controller. The N64 controller is almost Dreamcast or Sega Saturn 3D tier awful.
All this hard work and designing when there's things called a Mouse and Keyboard that has been out for a long while

yo, the symmetrical shit is what makes a playstation controller. i would probably cry real hard if they decided to go with the uneven weird layout because then the dpad would be in the worst place to ever exist [editline]21st October 2013[/editline]
All this hard work and designing when there's things called a Mouse and Keyboard that has been out for a long while
good luck playing fighting games and racing games lol
The Dualshock design is my favorite. The 360 one is a close second though.
good luck playing fighting games and racing games lol
I play racing games just fine on keyboard and mouse.
The Dualshock design is my favorite. The 360 one is a close second though. the ultimate way to know for a fact a controller is going to feel good is to relax your hands, then design your controllers entirely on the shape of relaxed hands
I like dualshocks because when I'm using the left stick it's really easy to move it forward because my thumb kind of naturally drifts upwards if you know what I'm trying to say
the ultimate way to know for a fact a controller is going to feel good is to relax your hands, then design your controllers entirely on the shape of relaxed hands
Which is why Dualshock is bad in my book. I need to pull my thumbs back to rest them on the joystick because my hands are too big.
In my exprience with both new controllers, they're really really similar to their predecessors. Thats all there is to it honestly.
I work fine with both. But i'm a playstation at heart, and I love those two little thumsticks together yummy.
I hate the dual shock, it fucked up my hands from a young age when the only system I had was a playstation, I was the one kid who preferred third party controllers When I bought a Gamecube it was like a massive load had been lifted from my shoulders. Nintendo just seems to know how to make controllers, everything since the N64 has been really ergonomic and comfortable (even the Wii Remotes have the glove.) The Wii U Gamepad is one of the best controllers I've ever used, anyone who thinks otherwise has only seen pictures and made an assumption My favourite controller is the Classic Controller Pro though, I think that proves that the problem with the Dual Shock isn't the stick placement, it's just that the handles are angled on the bottom in such a way that your hands get cramped, this seems to be a common problem and it's one I used to get a lot (and still do if I ever use a playstation controller,) I understand not everyone experiences this but don't be that guy who's like "I NEVER HAD AN ISSUE YOU ARE JUST WRONG" At any rate, the Dual Shock 4 seems like a step in the right direction, but I'd have to use it first.
