They pretty much nailed it. I feel the same.
What was changed that caused so much ire?
And I've heard people say, it was good, now you broke it,
Sounds exactly like one of my friends when the patch came to 360. "It used to be good, now it just sucks, everything is butt now." I told him, "It's called balancing.."
What was changed that caused so much ire?
M26 dart kills everything in one shot
even tanks
even the antenna on caspian border
I'm okay with everything right now honestly The only thing I would want changed is the issue with the M26
You know you've fucked up when a gun kills in one shot and servers ban you for using it.
M26 MASS is completely broken and supression is really silly. Minor changes I don't like include balance fixes to guns that were fine and passes over guns that really weren't. Additional helicopter nerfs and jet buffs only hurt the air game. Otherwise the patch is pretty okay. I don't get a lot of the complaining but nor do I understand why DICE went crying to the media because their patch that took 6 months to release wasn't accepted by 100% of the community. Welcome to game design? Wonder how this thread would have turned out if it was a CoD developer making the statement.
I think it's a bug. It is odd that Dice didn't find this bug before releasing it.
the bug didn't exist before release.
Didn't they release DLC packs that shortcuts the multiplayer and unlocks all the guns and equipment? I'm fairly sure that will piss of most rather than please them.
People were complaining about supression, but I actually like it now. Maybe it could be toned down a bit, but I like how supression is actually important now.
the bug didn't exist before release.
releasing the patch
Also they said a hotfix is on the way for suppression and the M26 MASS but that was a month ago. These patches would get less criticism if DICE could actually fix these things in a reasonable amount of time.
"And then you had all the complaints. People still played it. We won all these awards. But the guys who were actually playing the game claimed after a thousand hours, I hate your game. It's the worst game ever. You should listen to me because I spent a thousand hours in it. It's like, well you're not really hating it. You're loving it so much that you get upset about these things."
Perfect.
People were complaining about supression, but I actually like it now. Maybe it could be toned down a bit, but I like how supression is actually important now.
I had a hell of a time on Kharg Island, actually using suppression to help my team. When I'm too far away with an SMG or other shorter ranged weapon but the enemy is in my view, I'll start firing at them even if I only hit them once or twice so my teammates in range have it easier. Also with the M249 with bipod I can get some very long range kills, but it's also good when I'm trying to make a sniper back away from his position. I'm really liking it the way it is right now, I feel that the teamwork is coming together now, where earlier it was easy to run off and do your own thing.

They are just stating that, no matter what they do in a patch, for some ungodly reason people will constantly bitch and belittle them for releasing it. As a developer that really does feel bad, every game DICE have released has had the same problem. And honestly? It's terrible that their community (I refuse to align myself with that lot) treat them like this when they do support their games years after release. They are so entitled that they think they have the right to constantly complain. If DICE patch a game to fix major bugs, they complain about something else constantly (even if it isn't a actual issue). If DICE don't patch the game they continue to bitch anyway. They truly cannot win. It's the same for a lot of developers out there to. DICE could probably lower the amount of bitching by releasing more frequent updates that change things gradually rather than massive changes between patches with a long release cycle.
The game is great now. People are using a wide-variety of weapons to complete the objective. I (IMHO) think that the game is at its best now.
But they did though. In the Eurogamer article. They specifically switched topics mid-conversation to cry because their mediocre patch that took 6 months to release is getting some criticism. I could understand not wanting to bitch at the developers specifically and calling them lazy (though taking 6 months to fix fundamental problems is really slow) but I don't agree with the idea that oh well they just released a patch everyone give them a grace period where we aren't allowed to criticize. How about DICE put on their big boy pants, dig into the feedback, pick out what matters and disregard what doesn't and continues developing their game rather then setting up interviews with game publications and complaining because not everyone loves them.
Maybe it's because they've genuinely broken things in the last few patches.

Seriously jets take ages to kill anything now and Helicopters dominate the air even more so than they ever did. Oh and the fact that stingers can now forever lock onto you within seconds is also pretty annoying.

The stinger change was a helicopter nerf if you actually read it; they have shorter range and fast lock on time, which means helicopters are more susceptible than jets.
The new patch seemed quite complete to me. I think they did well considering the userbase they have to work with. Though the PKP certainly needs something doing about it, it's near impossible to survive being shot by it for some reason compared to what it used to be. And jets could probably do with a slight boost against infantry because right now I can't actually kill anyone on the ground with a jet, leaving me helpless as I have no unlocks to fight other jets with easily. And obviously the M26 bug could do with being fixed. I don't understand exactly why DICE have such a massive turnaround on their patches, I can only assume a lot of it is put into testing the patch as there are so many variables in BF3 to test changes against (which is probably how the M26 bug slipped past).

There are dozens of things I'd change. As it stands it's a pretty okay game getting pretty okay patches. I've played 150 hours of it so I obviously like it. Just annoying that they get so much sympathy from FP when the CoD devs get shit on at every opportunity. Dev teams must love the fact that gamers have a whipping boy for every possible topic, probably takes a lot of the pressure off.
People were complaining about supression, but I actually like it now. You shouldn't be suppressed 5 seconds after somebody's stopped shooting at you.
The amount is perfect, the duration is less than perfect. You shouldn't be suppressed 5 seconds after somebody's stopped shooting at you.
Nah, effect needs to be reduced. Not being able to return fire at all because someone sprayed around you severely lowered the aim requirement and kinda dumbed down gameplay.

As some people have said, many other companies don't get anywhere near the heat DICE gets.
m26 dart bug explained: dice tweaked the m26 dart damage ratings but some guy screwed up and set what was going to be the gun's entire damage infliction to the damage rating for one pellet per round so in the game the m26 dart's damage is 12 times higher than what it's supposed to be (12 pellets per shotgun shell)
You can win DICE. Just stop breaking shit :v:
