Okay, so a few days ago I recieved my GTX 460 1GB. All well and good, until I realised I am being heavily bottlenecked (I'm pretty sure). To give an example, GTA 4 runs on the same FPS no matter what the settings (to an extent), which tends to be about 27~. The reason for this is probably because of my current CPU is a Core 2 Duo E7400 (2.8 GHz). I figured if I'm thinking of upgrading again, I might as well make it worth it, I'm kicking myself for buying this stuff when i5's and i7's started coming out. As you can see, I've already sorted out the GPU and PSU. My case should be fine too. What I do need though, is: -Motherboard (Preferably supporting SLI/Crossfire) - CPU -Memory The only other limitation is my current power supply, which is 550 Watt. This means I can't have any very high powered hardware, because a more powerful PSU would push me too far over my budget. What I found myself is the following: AMD CPU Phenom II 965 Black Quad Core Processor UPDATE: AMD CPU Phenom II 955 Black Quad Core Processor (Eddie) Asus M4N75TD NF 750a SLI AM3 Motherboard Corsair Memory XMS3 4GB DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333) The above come to £247.54 I'm looking for something that will keep me going well on games for a long while, and won't give me any more bottlenecking problems, with possible future upgrades for a second GTX 460. Budget is around £275 max. The lower the better. Current specs, if you're interested, are: MSI Cyclone GTX 460 1GB OC E7400 2.8 GHz 4GB DDR2 667/800 MHz Gigabyte EP35 DS4 Mobo 250GB HDD Windows 7 (32 bit, but 64 bit is available) Let me know if I'm forgetting any important hardware that would be required for such an upgrade. Thanks.
Looks good, you won't get anything better for the money
You should get the 955, its just 0.2 ghz slower, but you can easily overclock it to that
Ah, great, knocks off almost £20. So far, £247.54. Everything look good then?
Looks very good, nothing to say I'm still surprised we can find any AMD motherboards with SLi support though.

Thank you for your inputs. Might be a little while before I can actually get this stuff though, sadly.

Alright, I'm planning to order within the next 2 weeks. The only problem at the moment though, is that the motherboard is out of stock. It's the only AM3 SLI board I can find, so this might be a problem, as I did really want SLI... Any ideas for a substitute? I can't tell if it's going to be back in stock any time soon, it's out of stock on DABs too, the only UK seller that has it is Novatech, but I'd like to try and stick to SCAN or Ebuyer. Also, what I'm now looking at is £275.03, because I added a case.
the only other suitable mobo I can think of is the MSI NF750-G55 but that doesn't seem to be on ebuyer or scan either there are some on amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-M4N75TD-Motherboard-SATA-300-8-channel/dp/B003F8MT9E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1290787879&sr=8-1
Alright, thanks, I forgot about Amazon. I guess it's only a bit more expensive. Thanks. If all goes well, and nothing else goes out of stock, I think this will do.
Great. The motherboard is back in stock, but now the CPU is out of stock. This is starting to annoy me.
