• How bad is this burn?

I imagine it's 1st or 2nd, but it seems like it should be worse for what happened. I was putting a pizza in the oven and i touched the red hot burning thing that heats up the oven. It hissed and smoke rose off my hand (I presume it was just from the hair burning off) and it smelt like burnt hair. I'm not really worried, just curious and bored. This was about a minute after it happened. No pain at all This was about 20 minutes after, i had put an ointment on it. Decent amount of pain, but nothing too intense Now (≈24 hours later), no noticeable pain. A bit sensitive, and would probably hurt if it got scratched. Thanks :D
Well im not a doctor, but i would say its not that bad. try putting a fork in it, if it goes in like a tender steak then you have a problem.
If it doesn't hurt anymore it's probably 1st or 3rd. 2nd Degree would still hurt like hell. It doesn't look TOO bad, so I'd say 1st, put ointment on it and see i that helps. If you can I'd always recommend seeing a doctor.

At least you didn't touch an iron. :|
At least you didn't touch an iron. :|
The heat source of an oven at pizza-baking temps would be WAY hotter than an iron.
put toothpaste on it
The heat source of an oven at pizza-baking temps would be WAY hotter than an iron.
I haven't actually experience the touch of an oven, so the iron is pretty much the hottest thing I touched in my lifetime.
At least you didn't touch an iron. :|
It was even hotter than that? It was heating the oven up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. If its first or second degree burn you should have been feeling pain almost immediately. You should be pretty worried since it appears to be turning black which would indicate a third degree burn of some sorts.
I wouldnt mind if I had to go through that every time to get pizza. As long as it isn't crispcrust brand.
It's a first degree burn, nothing bad at all. And it's call a heating element, op.
Are you Keith perchance?
none of you seem to know the degrees of burns. this is first, if it forms a blister it's second.
Then why is it raised and leathery? and secreting a clear fluid
Ask your mother to kiss it better. instant fix :)
be a man take the pain
Pussy that's nothing. I've burnt myself so many times.
be a man take the pain
I've stated that it does not hurt.
It doesn't look very good to be honest. It shouldn't turn that dark. Even if it's 3rd degree it's ok to just wait to see what happens, but if it keeps getting worse, or doesn't seem to heal, you should visit a doctor. If it's still there after a week you really should get it checked out. That being said, reflexes probably saved you from a 3rd degree burn. edit: Oh yeah it can turn that dark if it's a blister that's forming.
