I booted up my PC today, expecting to check my games on Steam. Instead I get a message like this. So, I try and check out the file to see what's up but lo and behold, it's corrupted. I've tried reinstalling and deleting everything but steamapps and the steam.exe, but it won't delete the Public folder. This freakin' sucks, I can't find a fix for this anywhere. And as far as I can tell, nobody else has this problem. I'm hoping you fellas can help me out, so thanks in advance.
Install steam in a new folder.
Ok, let me try that. [editline]18th November 2010[/editline] Worked just fine, installed it straight on the root of my D drive rather than in D:/Program Files. But the problem of deleting the old Steam folder is still lingering, any tips?
cd D:/program files/ Del steam Write this into CMD when your explorer.exe is turned off in Task Manager. If it won't work, try going on hidden admin account and from there. I got rid of LOTS things from my external HDD when it was full of some unnneeded shyt.
Also try using Linux LiveCD if you want to (or the above suggestion doesn't work).
