my second monitor (Compaq MV500, a CRT) simply doesn't power up. No amber light, no green light, just no power. I've checked all the connections, and they're all there.
Is there any way to save it or will I have to just get a new one?
It should be noted that the degauss coil still works, because when I press the power button, my other CRT does the whole colorful wavy thing that happens when you press the degauss button. So it obviously still has power, it's just the tube and status LED aren't getting any of it.
Honestly there's not much tinkering in a CRT that you want to do to try to fix it. You can't really revive them like you can with LCDs by swapping out parts.
I know the dangers involved in opening up a CRT. I hadn't planned on licking the capacitors or anything

It turns out that if I turn it off from x-server settings, the amber light comes on. It's just when my computer is trying to use it that nothing works.
Nothing? Come on guys.
Something is wrong with the monitor. Go and get it checked. That is the only possible thing. Sorry.
