i'm forced to have quicktime on windows installed for some reason because I can't use mp3 without it in pro tools. it's ridiculous
I'm forced to because my class uses MOV files and we have to test it in QuickTime. A shame.
It's been uninstalled on my end for years.
Never seen a reason to have it.

Hell, even if my class was trying to force me to use it (gf is in this situation) I'd probably try and go through my alternatives like VLC first because fuck Quicktime
I can't un-install this bullshit because of adobe after effects
I like how it seems that Quicktime is taking a lot of applications hostage because they are tied to its framework :v:

There are two zero-day exploits detected

They really don't need to use quicktime. It's just lazy development on their part.
For example with Pro Tools, I cannot import mp3 files into a track without Quicktime, which makes zero sense.
Quicktime is garbage. I dunno why Apple even fuckin bother with it anymore myself.
Although, I guess it's because it plays the same role on Macs as Windows Media Player plays on Windows as being the included video player.

Yeah but, unlike Quicktime, WMP has been replaced.
Win10 has Groove Music and some movies app

Much of WMP (or at least an emulation layer) still exists within Windows because it gets used as a media decoding library for some reason as well.
Also, I've just added QuickTime's entire directory to Sandboxie. Since the exploits won't work unless you actually interact with QuickTime somehow, this should be ample protection until I figure out a way to import video into Photoshop without it.

probably involving ffmpeg somehow

WMP is still bizarrely integrated into Win10 though, when I select multiple music files and hit enter it tries to open them in WMP even though my default music player is set to MusicBee (And selecting one music file and hitting enter opens it in MusicBee, like it should). It's really fucking annoying, I have to drag and drop new music into MusicBee instead which takes longer.

Weird. Report it in the Windows Feedback app.
Need it because it's the standard for After Effects output we use at work. Quicktimes in either Animation, motion JPEG, or ProRes 422 codecs. QuickTime's UI is just too ugly.
mostly just lazy legacy code rollover that is causing this issue. There is nothing special about quicktime's ability to encode shit, they need to switch over to FFMPEG or libav and quick.
