I've never owned a phone before tbh, I mostly want it just for the 3G web browsing and gmail + other google services. I don't mind the 300 min for voice.
I don't care too much for 3D games or anything, but people say if you root it and give a custom rom or whatever it can go to 1GHz and be almost as good as a higher end Android anyways.
Since I am such a newb to cell phones, what am I getting myself into? I checked the coverage map btw, I'm clear on everywhere.
If you're gonna be stuck with a phone for 2 years, at least cough up the money to get a decent one.
Well it's no contract.
Just get a Smart MP3 player or a tablet and run around on Wifi.
Eugh, LG phones. HTC or Motorola are where it's at.

Samsung and Motorola is where it's at. HTC is crippled by Qualcomms inability to produce a good chip and by their TN panel displays.

In fact in the high end segment LG is also beating HTC. Faster processors in their phones and IPS displays as well as large internal storage. It's quite a shame because HTC has some great phone designs and a really great looking UI.

Well maybe I should actually make a useful post here. Look around and see how much you can get a slightly used Nexus S for. I've seen them go for $150-$200 and it's well worth the extra $50-$100 bucks if you can get it for that much.

It's with a contract on Virgin Mobile.
I went with the Motorola Triumph for Virgin which I rooted and overclocked to 2.0ghz (1.99ghz but whatever) and its insanely fast. Easily operates at the speed my iPhone 4 did.

The Triumph is a great phone, if you're gonna go with Virgin Mobile I hope to Christ that you get the Triumph.
