This isn't for homework or some shit like that I wanted to show some kid that there's $40,000+ software. I know it's there, but I can't find it.
Source Engine, or any other game engine for that matter. You dolts i'm talking about if you purchase the game engine, not make a mod.

A PS3!:iceburn: Nah, not anymore, when it came out that's another story. Go buy this
In 1982 GriD Systems released the Compass 1100 laptop costing about $10,000 (inflation adjusted $20,200). Even this cost pales in comparison to the reports of a costly laptop that luxury manufacturer Luvaglio London is set to release in the near future by special order the most expensive laptop ever sold, with a price tag of a million dollars.
It looked like this "IT'S REAL FUCKING MARBLE!"
That would be Cryengine.
You can't count engines, they cost differently for different people. Merchants of brooklyn(or something) uses CE2 but they obviously didn't pay the full price for it.

To have a license to use it wouldn't, comparing them.

Massive Prime: http://www.massivesoftware.com/products/ $17,999 USD plus $3,999 per year for upgrades & support It's not $40,000, but it's still pretty damn expensive..

Every Single Adobe Product put together (Including The Master Suite)
Major 3D and Visual Effects packages are some of the most expensive 'off the shelf' software that you've probably seen the output of at some point $14,000 for Autodesk Inferno (Real time compositing software) It's mainly used for cinema (4k-8k+ film scan resolution) and advertising (for almost interactive-like render speeds) visual effects compositing work for its blisteringly fast proccessing speeds when combined with a good hardware package. And my best estimate on a low-end rig that will do that is in the region of 120k euros, although some sources (like the ol' wikipedia) say in the range of half a million to a million dollars (USD).
Every Single Adobe Product put together (Including The Master Suite)
If one was to purchase Autodesk Flint, Flame, Inferno, Burn and Smoke (their major compositing packages) it would come to the tune of a cool $25k
http://www.devmaster.net/engines/engine_details.php?id=25 "Cost is estimated to be more than $700,000"
You're not paying for the software, you're paying for the license to distribute
