• Is a microwave that disrupts bluetooth malfunctioning or not?

I get very mixed answers for this. Some say "there's no microwave that doesn't do this to some extent" and others "the faraday shielding is compromised if it leaks microwaves" By disrupting I mean specifically that when it's on, bluetooth audio near it starts to crackle and distort
is it running when the audio distorts?

Microwaves interfering on 2.4GHz is well-known and almost certainly harmless. Bluetooth audio is particularly susceptible to interference.
If you're worried about leakage, you can try holding a fluorescent light bulb up to the microwave while it's running in the dark. If you see a glow in the bulb/tube, then you've got a leak that can be dangerous. You might still have a minor leak anyway if the bulb doesn't glow, but this is generally accepted as normal and no more harmful than cell phone radiation.
