Here I'll save you folks some effort and clicks: Diablo, Diablo III, Diablo II, Lord of Destruction, Reaper of Souls.

Wait what, they put Diablo 1 as the worst?
Are they mental?
Diablo 3 pre patches and expansion is the worst by far
[editline]12th December 2016[/editline]
and even today with its expansion it's not much
how can one man be so wrong?
Comparing a modern product to a product made 20 years ago limited by the technology of its time is way unfair. Of course it seems bad by todays standards, but back then it was fantastic. It's like trying to compare Pole Position to something like NFS Underground 2.
What about that weird Diablo 1 expansion? I've never been able to find it anywhere.
RoS definitely saved Diablo 3 but it's still not at the top.

it was weird because it's generally considered non-canon because its made by a different company, but I've never played it before

Hellfire really wasn't that good imo, you'd get into the Hellfire areas and the monsters and locales looked like shit because they contrasted with the rest of the game so much. You could tell it was made by a different company.
I wouldn't really recommend playing it.

Hellfire was made by Sierra, not Blizzard. It's in a really weird place, but it's definitely not considered canon. It was made with permission, so I think the closest you can get to placing it is it's the official unofficial expansion.
It's essentially a really complex mod, to be honest. A damn good one, but still a mod.
Man all that talk made me want to play D1 again but I lost my CD a long time ago and it's not sold digitally anywhere

I disagree. Comparisons between the first and latest in a series are inevitable in all things. Have you seen how often comparisons and contrasts between Fallout 1 and Fallout 4 get brought up?
Technical limitations and time passed doesn't make a game infallible.

That said, I've never played a Diablo game and I'm not defending the list made by the author. I have no opinion on it other than being slightly annoyed at the total lack of reasoning for why D1 is at the very bottom.

well on the offchance you get it somehow, get the Belzebub mod. improves the game in every way both in terms of modern system compatibility and new content

I dunno the legality of abandonware sites but you should check there, since it's not like Blizzard is profiting from it what with the total lack of places to buy it from them.

Or y'know, drop $15-$20 on a disc at Amazon and back it up to make sure you don't lose it to time and misplacement.
I would honestly put D1 higher than D2 and D3. Especially if we take a modern perspective on it. D2 had a lot of problems, some builds were actually completely useless. Anyone who played a skeleton necro knows what I mean, after a certain point skeletons became a literal waste of skill points. Lord of Destruction fixed a lot of those problems. Summoner specs still have issues, but it's nothing like vanilla D2. D3 was fun, but I mean I'm saying that as a longtime fan of the Diablo series in general. Everyone knows original D3's problems.
Let's not forget RoS's story in general and its shitty ending too.
hellfire is worth it just for the 3 new classes and new items.
the 2 extra areas are complete ass though. the AI of ranged enemies are unbearable
Idk if it's the best objectively, but I spent the most time in Diablo 2:LoD and loved it. Still haven't beaten it, I really should...
If this was a few years ago, I would of happily installed the game and created a new necromancer character to guide you.

I don't know if Reaper of Souls is the best. But it is pretty good. I'd say it's the best if it had PoE's aesthetic, because Diablo is supposed to be grim but it's way too colorful, but Diablo 1 and 2 still do a couple things better, while RoS does a couple things better. It's hard to just say This is better and this is worse

basically. in terms of ambiance, diablo 1 is the best, diablo 3 has some of the best gameplay, but I'd rate diablo 2 as the best 'overall' though it has its fair amount of issues.
I like RoS but it is nothing compared to LoD in its prime. I still play LoD from time to time, started again recently with the new ladder reset, and it is just so much better than 3. The skill system and itemisation coupled with stuff like runewords and charms just adds so much more to the game, and the game doesn't just consist of running rifts constantly. I don't really know why but replaying the 5 acts through all the difficulties in D2 is fun, not like how it was D3 where replaying the acts was a chore.
I think what really puts me off D3 is how static a lot of the systems in that game are, you no longer have skill trees, the endgame is just running rifts nonstop, or rather the entire game is running rifts nonstop and barring a few exceptions the only way to make a good build is to have a full set.
You don't have an economy like in D2, you can't make incredible items like Enigma or BotD and even though you need full sets to be able to beat the highest difficulties having one doesn't feel as good as it did in D2. You don't get that glowing aura that you saw those purple sorceresses running around with, you don't turn into a skeletal lich as a necromancer, there are none of the interesting abilites that gear had in D2, no chance to cast, no + to skills you normally can't have as whatever class you are, all the personality is just gone.
I don't really think you can rank the Diablo games because all 3 of them are better than eachother in different ways.
