everyone could be nice enough to make a gaming environment where nobody needs to segregate themselves off to their own kind for any reason
that's still on the cards right
gaming journalism at its finest
Or you could not be a whiny shit about stuff that has no meaning in the game. Play the fucking top down point and click rpg. No one cares if you're trans or whatever new bullshit the SJW's come up with. Go commune with your inner wolfkin on tumblr.

while this is a childish way to say it, hes got a point. I dont care what your sexuality or sex or race or religion or whatever is if im playing games with you. Im playing games to play games, not anything else
Looks like the Controvotron 3000 is still preforming to spec.
whatever happened to the "don't be a dick" rule or "use common sense" rule?
Something went down in the US FP clan :v:
... for anyone who doesn’t remember to be straight, white, and cis-gendered male.
I wish people would stop using this phrase as if it means anything
It's the internet; you're a faceless human being on the other end of a monitor. "straight white male" is not the default internet persona, whatever you make your username be is the default internet persona
Phrases like this one are thrown around as if being straight white and cisgendered magically means you are ok to be on the internet like you've got a fuckin internet dlc season pass; but the article itself even says that gamer culture is toxic and then immediately contradicts itself in saying that it's for some reason just not if you meet that criteria, which is not true, at all.
if anyone wrote an article like this on the site i write for theyd get fired instantly
there are so few of us gaming journos left who still have something called integrity
Also, the phrase 'trans' is banned because it is a term with sexual implications not because they're trying to keep transgender culture down or what the fuck ever jesus christ, and even if that isn't the reason why does anyone really think that making your group openly trans-whatever will do anything but attract dislike from other people??? Like yeah that sucks but like the article says gamer culture is toxic and so if a hot button issue like trans-whatever stuff was allowed it would open the flood gates to "WE ARE THE ANTI TRANS-WHATEVER GROUP BLAH BLAH BLAH" shit which is even worse. The reason it is there is to keep dumb infighting and mass reports between clans out of the game
John Walker is a man with 0 foresight, I'm so mad about this stupid article
[editline]7th April 2014[/editline]
this article is such shit i'm actually legitimately angry that john walker gets paid to write this schlock
worst part is there are people who genuinely agree with him and think this is a quality article
This is not gaming journalism this is pointless shit solely made for retards. I'm so sick from reading about how games opress x or y. I hope these people know they are fighting for a made up cause and are just wasting their lifes fighting problems that don't exist. They are ruining everything. I'm glad not a lot of people care but the numbers are increasing.
It's a well known fact that the gaming community are mostly dicks and if you can't handle that you leave.

1. The straw man arguments are uncalled for, otherkin have nothing to do with transgenderism (yes really)
2. I honestly don't see how this is any different than allowing clans for people with any other similarities, heck isn't there an FP clan? That makes about as much sense as transgender ones. Not to mention their filter is perfectly fine with "gay".
3. Between this and what I've seen of you in certain other threads I find it hard to believe you're not deliberately trying to be this fedorable.
Anyone remember when RPS used to write about video games instead of insipid SJW bullshit?
Me neither.

I hate to stick my neck out on something like this, but honestly, it does mean something, admitted the "straight white" parts considerably less so, but plenty of guys do take advantage of the internet to be extremely sexist.

and other groups/people don't???
and other groups/people don't???
Generally speaking people are sexist towards other sexes, IE guys usually aren't all that sexist towards guys unless they're joking, and no I honestly haven't seen all that many (if any at all) examples of women being sexist in online games.
Anyone remember when RPS used to write about video games instead of insipid SJW bullshit?
Me neither.
I think there's a time and a place for "SJW bullshit" when it comes to games journalism but this article is pretty fucking terrible.

Let them be bigots if they want to be bigots. It's just words on a screen. If you are being hunted down by those people to the point where it starts making your life hell, do something about it. Everything else is whining.
There is nothing dumb about suggesting people should have the right to express something about themselves and easier seek people like themselves. The fact that some groups do have the privilege just reinforces the lack of logic and reason here.
Whether or not it is a great issue is a matter of perception. If you don't care whether a person is trans, why should the ban remain in place, hmm? I mean I would presume from that sort of statement that you can find the capacity to ignore the declarations? These people obviously see it with greater significance.
There is no good reason, that I have seen thus far, to stop Trans people from declaring themselves and finding other Trans people to game with in this way.
Does that make your eyes twitch? Big fucking deal.

Have you considered that they might have put that ban in place to stop people from creating "Kill All Trannies" clans and not to oppress trans* people?
wait i thought minorities wanted to stop being labelled so why have trans in the first place if you want to be seen as a human being
wait i thought minorities wanted to stop being labelled so why have trans in the first place if you want to be seen as a human being
you can still be seen as a human being and identify with a certain group.

Some people prefer to be around people they're already in a common group with, especially people who often meet with, unfavorable conditions, when dealing with others. How is that dehumanizing?
I think if Microsoft still banned the use of "gay" in their gamertags like they once did, people would rag on them for that because the Microsoft hate bandwagon is currently stronger than the RPS hate bandwagon on Facepunch.
Well there goes my plan to organize a clan for the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
However, there is (and should be) a clan named Gaymers, and “gay” is acceptable in clan names.
Brb creating "BlizzardIsGay" with no consequences because it's deemed acceptable as no filter stops me from doing it
I mean is that really the most prominent complain about Diablo? Because an extremely minor group of people can't get their shit together they decide to blame it on Diablo banning trans? Abandon all logic, seriously. If this is enough to make you feel opressed you need help.

I fail to realise how this changes anything. Just use a goddamn synonymous word or "LGBT" I don't know. This is not something that is news worthy. Even less because it isn't even about the issue itself, the author is just appealing to the tumblr crowd hence why RPS keeps writing all these pointless as fuck articles. I remember the last being about Mass Effect opressing females or was it gays I don't even remember anymore. I'm sick of hearing it. If they are so mad why not piss off Blizzard by writing lots of angry letters complaining about "muh opression ;__;"?
To be honest, there is just no point why Trans is even filtered. There is no point except that some intern made up the filter list and felt transphobic (or hateful of transformers). Blizzard should just whitelist the word and be done with this.
