Recap of Update :
Valve said today that it will now charge a $100 fee for anyone posting a game on the site.
The proceeds will be donated to Child’s Play.
Note: Anyone who has already posted a submission to Greenlight will not have to retroactively pay for any existing submissions, but will need to do so for any future submissions.
Finally.

That's quite the entry barrier.
$100 is a pretty big fee, jeez

You know that people who actually put projects up on Greenlight reasonably expect to have profits 20 fold of that, even more.
Compared to other companies offers, 100 dollars is a dream come true.
$100 is not a big fee. If you or a team have spent time developing a game you thing is truly good, you can find ways to pay it. Have team members chip in, ask friends, ask the internet. And if you're struggling to pay $100 to put your game on Greenlight, then that game should probably not be your top priority.
make a kickstarter
Its a one time fee. You pay once and you never have to pay again for all games you submit.
Its on the submission page.
I like that, $100 isn't high for a serious developer, it filters out some of the trash, and goes to a good cause
Thumbs down button also now says "No thanks/Not interested" to shut the whiny deviantart babies up.
As funny as it was seeing some of the awful shit that got uploaded, this is a smart move.
Why not just approve the games that are submitted?
$100 is a pretty big fee, jeez
not if you're making a game worth selling?
seriously if $100 is a "big fee" to you, you probably don't have any business trying to sell a commercial game in the first place

defeats the purpose of greenlight

This way they're helping out charity and also saving themselves the trouble of declining loads of shitty submissions/stolen shit. And yeah also what Kopimi said.
100 oh man what a hefty fee especially when its going to a charity i dunno man...
100 bucks isn't high for anything lol, I'm actually glad it costs money, keeps people from wanting to add full on retarded shit.
100$ is still way too much
It should be around 10$-25$, that would already stop spammes

Its an investment, if your idea is good you'll likely make a lot more money than 100 dollars to offset the cost of submission.
I think a 25$ fee (the same Google charges for the play store/android market) would have been better.
Sure, we filter the trash and spam, but at 100$ we are getting into the "leave actual projects out" price tag.
I mean, there 0 guarantee that you'll be on Steam and 100$ isn't pocket change.

that's hilarious, just a minute ago you were freaking out over an opinion
Not sure how I feel about the fee being $100
this is the best solution for now.
Wait a min, what about mods?
Should keep the shit out.
Yeah, $100 for a game you might possibly make a profit on later is reasonable; but there's an issue of free mods? It seems a little unfair to them.
Honestly, $100 is not a lot. Sure it is a bit of money but if you want your game on steam you can find ways of getting the money. Have 10 friends pitch in $10 , make a kick starter( can make money for development as well as your $100 to submit), save a little money each paycheck. There is loads of ways you can easily make or get $100. I like the $100 fee, there is over 600 items now and some I have seen are really browser game quality and should just put the game on kongregate.
