Well yesterday, like an idiot, I decided to leave my external on the arm of my couch as I went to sleep (on the couch). As you probably can guess, I knocked it off, and it fell a good two feet. Is there any chance that I might get lucky and pull some data off this thing? Frankly I don't care about my steam games, but there were hundreds of pictures I'd rather not lose.
External was an old 250GB my dad had in his desktop that he wiped and put in a case, so he could make room for a 1TB, and so I wouldn't crash the laptop HDD.
I know I'm probably fucked, but thanks anyway.
Was the hard drive on? Why don't you just plug it in and see if any data was lost?
It was off... And it hasn't started... Shit. I think it turned on but the drive itself won't start or move. Sorry if this post has shit formatting, I'm posting from my phone...
Ah, since it doesn't power up then that could be that it isn't actually receiving power, I mean if it was made by your dad, ask him to check it.
I'm hoping thats the case, and probably what I'll do... Would there be any other reasons for it not to start spinning?
What's the model of the enclosure and the drive?

Not likely, most likely a loose wire, I mean if you aren't hearing any noise, that is most likely.
I wish I had the drive and enclosure in front of me to tell you, but I'm in school and I don't, only know it's an Antec case... More later, thanks for the help though.
Thanks a lot wabash, it wasn't a loose wire technically, but the shock was enough to disconnect the drive from the case (the data connection thing, I'm not up to snuff on all the internal parts of a computer, just the basics), because my dad left a few screws loose enough for the drive to slide. Probably saved it from worse damage. I'm now going to upload/back up all those pictures somewhere...
Yeah I hate it when you have to back up a backup.
Yea, I never thought I'd have to, and of course the one thing I do have uploaded somewhere, is also backed up onto a CD. Everything else has nothing, except Steam.
