as long this doesn't affect paintball and airsoft, i'm fine with it
Reading this article makes me think that this isn't all that much of a bad thing.
Honestly if we could ban gun related posts in general, that would be great.
I've got a conservative grandmother, huge gun enthusiast, don't want to be rude an un-add her, but she's constantly sharing gun shit, commenting on gun related pages. It's like guns are fucking breaking bad to her, she just goes crazy over the damn things.
Well people shouldn't be expressing their willingness to break the law on facebook anyway. I'm sure many people have lost their jobs over stuff like that.
If they're going to do this then they ought to ban discussions of illegal substances if they have not already.

That's why you have the ability to sort the stuff she posts, that YOU wanna see, instead of un-friending her.
I really like guns, and if it wasn't for the damn uptight rules in Denmark, i'd even have my own collection, along with shooting at ranges and such. I'd never want to hurt or risk other peoples life because I like guns ...
I just think it's a bad shame it's all the recent events giving the guns a bad name. It's slowly starting to turn taboo.

So you're saying Facebook should remove the ability for people to express their opinion to legally own guns?
As much as I'm not a fan of guns, censoring and oppressing peoples opinions is just wrong. This isn't North Korea

yeah but this is people openly admitting to breaking the law

People put statuses about smoking weed, watching films online or whatever else. Regardless, it's not harming you, so what does it matter?

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean they should ban it, I don't like people like you and they don't ban entitled bitches.

Because people can't have hobbies.
Owning and maintaining guns is just as much a hobby as making models, playing tabletop games, painting, music. Just because you don't like what someone else does does not mean that it should be censored in its entirety just to make small people like you comfortable.
As far as I'm concerned if people wanna post status updates on their fb about breaking the law let them.
It just makes them easier to catch if its something serious anyway

well Facebook isn't a selling site, so really it's not their fault nor should they punish most of the gun community about this.

How are they punishing anyone? They're covering their asses by saying "Don't use our site to do illegal shit"
It's the same reason Warez posts are banned here

I think people should be allowed to do what they want, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone but themselves. It just worries me that there's a whole "GUN PRIDE" type of thing going on, and considering that their purpose is to kill something, not shoot skeets, not shoot targets (although that could be fun to someone), guns are ultimately there, to kill something.
And I'm really not comfortable with people that, because people dumb enough to take part in this "gun culture" are people that are too dumb then should be allowed to have guns.

Facebook and a forum, as well as talking about downloading movies, and selling illegal guns, are completely different things in their entirety.

No, people like you are too dumb to be allowed to own guns. Ninety nine percent of gun owners you see are extremely responsible and understand the risks associated with the weapons they possess. People like you see them as near self aware killing machines that can scarcely be controlled. The whole "GUN PRIDE" thing you speak of. Is because honestly, guns are cool as shit. They are miniature cannons that you can wield with the capability to blow shit up a mile away. Sorry if you can't see how people would have a shitload of fun with that. Its even a damn Olympic event. The fact that you see guns as tools of murder in itself is pretty bad. Just because something was first made as a weapon does not mean that it can't be used for other purposes. Look at fireworks, you're lighting bombs and mortars up right in your face. Shitloads of people die every year from car accidents, sports, and alcohol. Yet you don't see any of those getting banned.
In summary, people like you shouldn't be allowed to make decisions period. Because if that were the case. We'd all end up like this fucker.

If you don't think that everyone rolling around in plastic balls all the time would be fun as fuck, then I don't know what's wrong with you, but that's besides the point.
How is the fact that I see them as weapons wrong? They were created as weapons, they are primarily used as weapons. I think people should be allowed to own guns, I think background checks need to be performed, and you should have to register them and buy them from a certified arms shop. You shouldn't be able to just go in to walmart and buy shotgun shells.
I take the same approach with guns, feminism, other social issues, religion, politics, movies, music, and tv shows: Don't cram it down my goddamn throat. The solution to anything is apathy. You should go to someone's house, see their gun collection, either go "Oh cool, I like guns as well" or "I'm not really in to guns all that much" and then your conversation would adjust accordingly. If you want to make something normal, then act like it's normal in the first place. Don't go on forums and say "GUNS ARE FUCKING AWESOME YOU'RE TRYING TO BRING EVERYONE DOWN AND OVER PROTECT THEM YOU FUCKING DICTATOR".
And the best part of your rather shoddy post, is where you say that people who have the same opinion as me shouldn't be allowed to make decisions. Yeah, if I could live in my own universe where I made all the decisions and everything were the way I'd like it, that'd be fucking amazing, but things don't work like that, so get off the soap box.

There's no more "gun pride" than there is pride in any other hobby. Confirmation bias, plain and simple. There's "gun culture," there's "car culture," there's "anime culture" and a bunch of other "cultures" for other shit that people partake in. Guns are not any different.

You do have to be background checked for a sale to be "legal" (unless it's a third party seller, of course.) And ammo is different than a gun, since unless you're the crafty type, you sort of need the gun for purchasing ammo to be worthwhile.

Guns are normal for most people who own them. Again, car analogy. People talk about installing cold air intakes, installing turbos, ECU tuning, new tires, and all sorts of shit. It's literally no different than saying "I want a new scope for my Remington. What do you think about this one?"
It's not about punishing people who talk about breaking the law.
It's about punishing people who are engaging other users in the act of breaking the law.

Nobody is cramming guns down your throat, nobody is forcing you to read about them, nobody is forcing you to look at them, or even talk about them. Only you are doing that.
Background checks are performed wherever you go regardless of where you live. I'm from Oklahoma, trust me gun laws are relaxed there. The only time you won't get a background check is if its given to you as a gift or you buy it from a friend and whatnot.
I never said
"GUNS ARE FUCKING AWESOME YOU'RE TRYING TO BRING EVERYONE DOWN AND OVER PROTECT THEM YOU FUCKING DICTATOR"
I said that I basically hate that people like you interpret that as what people say should they be a fan of collecting and working with guns. That statement right there was senseless shit throwing.
I never said seeing them as weapons is wrong, they are weapons yes, but you view them in such a one sided manner its ridiculous. Just because they can kill doesn't mean we are all going to go out on a damn shooting spree with them. People can and do use them for sport. Shooting is a fucking Olympic event.
And Apathy is a terrible solution for everything.

How is apathy a bad solution?
If you want something to be accepted as normal, than act like it's normal. Saying "I'm gay, so what?" is a lot better of a way to make it accepted as the norm then marching through town square wear dildo hats.

You can start by not singling out gun culture and putting quotes around it to make it seem like some whimsical, otherworldly thing.
You can start by not singling out gun culture and putting quotes around it to make it seem like some whimsical, otherworldly thing.
I was putting quotes around it sarcastically. There really isn't a "gun culture" it's just easier to type than "people who post and share stuff about how much they love guns"

The point still stands - if apathy is the solution, then it has to be applied from both sides of the aisle, so to speak.
How is apathy a bad solution?
Ever heard the phrase "The only thing evil needs to succeed is for good men to do nothing."? Because while it isn't necessarily the most applicable saying, it does point out problems with apathy. If you want something that isn't normal to become normal, then change has to happen. Apathy does not change anything. Apathy, by definition, does nothing. If you want guns blocked on your Facebook feed, you use filters or kindly ask the person to cool it with the gun posts. You don't just sit there and bemoan your horrible completely avoidable fate.

But obviously most people think that throat cramming is the solution. You have to break the apathy for a second to say "You guys should apply apathy".

Obviously you're a smug douchebag who has to decree that I don't know what it is instead of just saying what YOU think it is, as compared to my definition.
