I love Windwaker, but they seem really off base here. I doubt the DS games really won over many fans, and I dob't think the HD version really improved the graphics as much as it could have done to other games.
Or it could just be that Wind Waker was a phenomenal game the whole way through, while Twilight Princess took a while to actually pick up, I didn't even consider it a good game on my first play through until i got to the water temple.

I know a lot of people say Twilight Princess really does get better later on, but the beginning portions of the game were just plain unfun, feeling like Ocarina of Time except not. Too bad Skyward Sword literally does the same thing in terms of dragging you along but almost all game long. Infact, I haven't actually even owned any main 3D Zelda game past Ocarina of Time until Skyward Sword.. I really need to do something about that.
Personally for me, I was enjoying Twilight Princess from the start, though in terms of "picking up", my moment was when I got my hands on the Hookshot, coupled with the encounter with Zant that was like "shit just got real". Also, one of the items I wish was used a lot more was the Spinner; I wanted more rail-grinding action with that amazing spinning top of doom. Hell, the Stallord bossfight was one of the most awesome moments for me, along with the Argorok fight with the Double Hookshots.
Twilight Princess nailed atmosphere. Wind Waker did everything else much better. Sometimes I prefer TP's style over WW.
The only reason why WW was ill recieved by fans was because Ocarina was still fresh in their mind as the best iteration of Zelda and like little fanboys they all wanted Ocarina 2 even though that's not Nintendo's style. Then they get some not super ultra realistic serious Zelda and they whine and get mad. Today we are used to Zelda's past the two N64 titles, so we won't rage over WW

Guess you can't please everyone. :v:
I'm sure it has nothing to do with Wind Waker being the best Zelda game
And it's funny because a lot of critics derided Twilight Princess of being too Ocarina of Time. Guess you can't please everyone. :v:
What the fuck, Twilight Princess is vastly different from Ocarina of Time
I honestly like "The Wind Waker" more than the original series. [sp]Sue me.[/sp]
What the fuck, Twilight Princess is vastly different from Ocarina of Time
I always put Twilight Princess with Majors Mask in terms of similarity
What the fuck, Twilight Princess is vastly different from Ocarina of Time
Yeah, like I said above I didn't play much of the game to make a judgement myself, but a lot of people bitch that TP tried to pander too hard to the OOT fans that hated Wind Waker for its artstyle and story.
I liked WW's style from the outset, I thought it was a cool departure and they pulled it off really well. Plus out of all the Links, WW link seemed to have the most personality.
I think Wind Waker resonates more with people than Twilight Princess because TP Tried very hard to be Ocarina of Time 2 instead of doing its own thing like Wind Waker did. I really like Twilight Princess when I played it. In hindsight, I think it's actually kinda dull. The environments were relatively lifeless, the character designs were really weird and a little off-putting at times, and the game kinda shit the bed towards the end in the "memorable villain" department (That said the duel with Ganondorf at the end was fucking incredible). With Wind Waker, I hold much fonder memories of this grand adventure with all of these great distinctive characters. Hell, I even liked the Triforce quest because it actually gave the player a moment to split off from the urgency of the main story to explore this massive world, something I think other Zelda games struggled with. The Triforce Quest could have been much better handled and I definitely appreciate the changes made to it, but to actually step back and say "There's some shit SOMEWHERE in this massive world that you need. Go find it." was absolutely brilliant on Wind Waker's part. Though whichever game you prefer I think we can almost all agree "fuck Skyward Sword."
I remember release day of WW. At first it was all what is this weird link. But then the game is so fucking good that you forget about the art style. also because of that the game still looks great now.
i feel like wind waker was the first title to actually give link a personality. i always liked n64 link, thought he was badass, but always found him incredibly aloof and dull in terms of personality. snes and gb titles, even more so. but in wind waker, link had all sorts of silly and cute facial expressions and you could really feel his determination through the whole journey. wind waker was the first title that i actually felt an emotional connection with link.
My favorite Zeldas are the Oracle of Ages and Seasons games :v: I feel these games don't get enough attention.
My favorite Zeldas are the Oracle of Ages and Seasons games :v: I feel these games don't get enough attention.
Everybody is over there going on and on about how great LttP is but I so vastly prefer everything about the Oracle games...
Everybody is over there going on and on about how great LttP is but I so vastly prefer everything about the Oracle games...
it's cause LttP came out first on SNES and then later GBA, so more people played it and it was a bigger deal budget and advertising wise, and Oracle Zeldas were GBC so not as "big of a deal" :/ Shame, Oracle of Ages is almost a straight upgrade to LttP
Twilight Princess nailed atmosphere. Wind Waker did everything else much better. Sometimes I prefer TP's style over WW.
If the intended atmosphere for Twilight Princess was "boring as shit" then yeah, they nailed it. It felt like generic, brooding fantasy through and through. Also didn't help that they gave everything a golden brown colour and bloomed the fuck out of everything.
Though whichever game you prefer I think we can almost all agree "fuck Skyward Sword."
why do people dislike Skyward Sword i loved that game
i heard skyward sword was pretty great
i heard skyward sword was pretty great
i think it's my favorite title next to MM (for different reasons though). combat was the best out of any title so far, backtracking was done well, and the overall progression i thought was fun and interesting. plus i liked zelda a lot in the game, her role was well done and actually made me want to go find her

And Fi was just annoying.

While it might not have been as advanced as it was a GB title initially, I find that it definitely had it's own charm. It was definitely one of the tightest in terms of gameplay for GB, up there with Tetris, Super Mario Land 2, and Pokemon.
Honestly Toon Link is one of my favorite Links, as he, like a few other Links, aren't necessarily directly related to the Hero's Bloodline, but instead just a blond kid with a sword who manned the fuck up when things got grim. Not to mention Toon Link is the only Link I can think of who lives with his family.

The one redeeming quality of TP was the soundtrack. It was pretty fucking good IMO.
