• Horrific internet speeds

My ISP is VirginMedia, and the broadband package is "Up to 10mb". Now I know that I'm not always going to get this, but I also know that by law they must give me at least half the speed they advertise. I'm currently getting this: My speeds were fine a few weeks ago, only recently have they begun to drop. And no, I haven't exceeded the download quota (FYI, if you download more than 800mb during peak times your internet is cut to 2.5mb for 5 hours.) Does anyone have any solutions, and if it is my ISP's fault, what are my options?
key word is UP TO. Also: We got it in late 06 and my parents can't be bothered to upgrade/change ISP. [editline]09:49PM[/editline] Also are you on a copper line or fiber optic?

From almost middle of Canada, I have the best speed and ping of all my friends. I usually get 50ms. It could be worse op.

My plan is up to 24MBit and I get this: [editline]11:21PM[/editline] Ring your ISP. We don't have access to your network hardware, surprisingly.
By law they DO have to give you at least 50% in the US. I'm on a 1.5mbps plan, rarely see more then .75mbps. Whenever I call to threaten to switch I always wind up just agreeing to wait for them to sort out whatever problem they claim to have :sigh:
Are you experiencing any bad weather?
This was a few weeks ago, which is when the slowdown started, roughly. All the snow's melted since then, so that can't be the problem.
