GPU issue, unable to see Bios with Geforce 460 but can see windows just fine

Okay so over the past few weeks I've noticed that i've not been able to see my Bios loading screen at all. My monitor sits idle with no signal until it boots windows and I get the login screen, that's when my monitor wakes up.
Recently I wanted to overclock my i7 but ofc i can't see the sodding bios so trying to diagnose my problem.
I have a geforce 460 (third gen) latest drivers for that. Plugging in another monitor doesn't help it. However I do have an old spare 9800gtx which when plugged in shows the bios.
Tried uninstalling drivers with my 460 plugged in, then I can't see windows boot at all but I know it does because I can enter my password and hear windows login.
Soooo, there's something wrong with the way by card displays basic visual...fuck knows i'm not technical. This motherboard does not have an onboard gpu, so there's no interference from that. I updated my Bios, still no difference.
Never heard of this before...i thought if a graphics card was fucked then it's usually completley useless. I've been running games just fine as normal and windows operation is completley normal, it's just in the bios screen/gpu without drivers that shit doesn't work.
I'm stumpy stumped, anyone have any clue at all?
Secure boot on Windows 8 I am guessing.
Had the exact same problem with the R9 280X, disable secure boot in the BIOS and it should be ok.
