Correct me if I'm wrong but that whole voice recognition/AI assistant thing sounds really fucking gimmicky.

Someone can't correct you on an opinion, but I agree.
It's really only useful while driving in my opinion.
The voice recognition you can use on Google Chrome for iOS is really, really good. Doesn't even seem like Siri can compete with that.
With a jailbreak tweak, Siri is listening all the time on my iPhone if i say the command. Its quite handy actually for a lot of tasks
It has had its share of controversy, with some accusing Apple of altering the software if it did not like the answers.
The most high profile case of this was when Siri recommended rival Nokia's handset over the iPhone.
When asked to recommend the best smartphone, Siri answered: "Nokia's Lumia 900" but it was changed within days to: "Wait...there are other smartphones?"
I hate search result manipulation. It's one of the worst ways of abusing the trust of its users.

Well in that particular case, can you really blame Apple? Your own AI product should not be recommending competitors. :v:
I don't care if Siri and Siri like products are completely useless
Its fun to talk shit to them and rename the iPhone to 'Retard', and schedule an alarm for 'rave 4AM'

Well yeah, it could. Bing lists competitors Google and Yahoo as the top results if you enter "seach engine".

Doesn't it kill the battery to constantly have it recording and processing every single sound it hears?

not really, according to Data Manager it will suck up the battery 2% faster which is not a lot (at all)
Yeah, but does it direct me to the local brothel?
Google Now is pretty clever I find.
If you search direction for places on Google Maps on your PC it'll pop up as a card ready with how long it'll take, hit navigate and sat-nav will pop up.
The same goes for weather and the timing of your daily commute!
I just wish Google would time their app releases a bit better. It takes months (if not years) for apps to get UK/EU versions. We still don't have Google voicemail. :(
