So, a few years ago my dad brought home these odd "VARbook" laptops from the schools he worked at, as they were going to throw them out.
I've looked all over for any form of identification other than the VARbook badge and I can't find anything. He knows less than I do.

I've really got no bloody idea what this is. Trying to google VARbook gives me absolutely nothing related. Any help would be appreciated.
Looks like a rebranded Dell Inspiron 5000e possibly by vintage ThinkGeek. Not an expert tho.
Is there a model or serial number on the bottom? I also love that style of keyboard, it's so nice to type on.

The keyboard can be found on a Latitude C600/C610 because I had a C610 years back and the keyboard is practically the same, in fact I can't tell any. I do know that the C610 came with the nice little nipple/clit mouse too, so there's that to consider. It might be on the Latitude D600 as well.
There is indeed a model number that I didn't notice before, "N38W2".
Googling it... Actually gives me the same laptop, but under three other brand names, "Enpower Innovates", "Gericom", and "Systemax". But absolutely no mentions of Dell or anything. The VARbook bit seems to be completely unique to this unit.
And a whole shit ton of what I assume are third party chargers and battery replacements. What the fuck?
But yeah, it does look exactly like a Dell Inspiron 5000e. Everything is the same.
I'm just wondering what's with the weird multiple rebranding.
Where the fuck did you get it from, did you find it in a in hole in the ground? I cant find anything on it.

The N38W2 is the OEM model made by Compal for what is most commonly known rebranded as Inspiron 5000e
You can find this happening with many other computers nowadays but with Clevo as the OEM instead
I can't find any record of it on VA research / VA Linux's old archive site but maybe it is one of their later VArbook models which came with preinstalled linux
That's interesting. I've never heard of that kind of thing before. Well, Clevo yes, but...
Googling Compal N38W2 only comes up with chargers and batteries, which threw me off. I can't find much about the laptop itself in regards to Compal, only the three aforementioned other companies.
These laptops came installed with Windows 98, but that may have been the school's work where they came from. I can't find anything about VARbook/VArbook/what the fuck ever either. That's the only mystery left.
Googling N38W2 varbook actually gives some sort of tangible result now but it's nothing I can make much sense of other than confirming the Dell Inspiron bit.
