The other day I was playing a game on my computer along with 3 others (all in the same room). We were all using controllers, so it used all 4 of my front usb ports. Twice during the event, the usb ports simply stopped working in the middle of play (this isn't just a controller issue, mice plugged in would stop working too). The second time, a friend even mentioned they saw a spark coming out of the usb port when adjusting his controller cable.
Rebooting fixes the problem, although I'm still quite worried that it could be doing irreversible damage to the ports. Any ideas what the exact problem is and hopefully a solution would be very appreciated.
It's probably also worth noting that it was only the front ports that stopped functioning - the back ports were still fine.
It could be that the front ports just couldn't handle it depending on the amount of headers and quality of case.

I can relate to this actually. My old desktop had four ports on the front of it and generally if you plugged anything other than USB storage into them problems would arise. I had a keyboard with backlights and a mouse with backlights and plugging both in would dim the lights on each of them. I think the power must be shared on the front and using things that draw a lot of power can cause issues.
