You guys remember this thread, Right? Well I had a build planned, but considering the outcome of afore-mentioned events, my account information was changed. I recently got my bank account access back and I am going to start buying parts, from now till February-March. First things first, Cheap case. Preferably under 60 USD. Once ordered, I will post pictures of unboxing. And this OP will be updated with the build. Things I CAN re-use. I have a keyboard and mouse already, along with an OS (for now), but I will need one for the future. And I have one monitor now, but I want to run dual monitors later down the road. GO GO GO!!!
order everything at once you save cash, you don't miss out on new shit coming out (sandy bridge ad bulldozer are right around the corner) and you can't use the build until you have everything anyway so what's the point

I want to get this started.
Then don't bother. You buy a CPU now, in February, it'll be outdated relative to the new hardware you can get for the same price you got it for. Besides, Sandy Bridge releases in the first week of January, I believe. You don't have anything to do? Go out, make some friends, find a computer club or something. Either that or buy a crossword puzzle book and kill time till you have a workable budget like 500USD. [editline]17th December 2010[/editline] Holy shit I just read that "My mom's a dipshit" thread. How are you holding up now?

How are you holding up now?
Holding up farely well... I actually talked with her and my dad about it, and she hasn't tithed in a while... She recently bought me a new desk, and our financial structure is starting to turn around. I'm using this HDD now. Any tips on when to order for stock limitations? I realized they sold out very quickly. [editline]16th December 2010[/editline] And right now, I have 350 USD. In the next 1 or 2 months I'll probably have 500-600.
It's one of those caviar green HDDs. Not good for a gaming rig. I'd go with a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB. Almost everyone here worships them. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 Just save up till you can get all your parts. If you order a HDD now, it's just gonna sit on your desk because you don't have a computer to put it into. Getting each part within a staggered period is a waste. I can put together a computer in less than 30 minutes. You don't need 2 to 3 months.

But I realize it takes less then an hour to assemble a computer, I just like to have things ready. And while I'm ordering parts I could possible learn more about the specific parts. I'm viewing this as a learning experience, as well as an oppurtunity to get a new computer.... And are those HDD's you mentioned sold out quite often?
ehh not a good idea if you want to learn more about parts then just look them up on google, because a 'learning experience' is not worth wasting money over
Yes, they are very popular. But really, just save up. Even if you did have a workable budget right now (500USD and above), everyone here would just tell you to wait till Sandy Bridge is released.
ehh not a good idea if you want to learn more about parts then just look them up on google, because a 'learning experience' is not worth wasting money over
How would this be a waste of money? I said before, I'm lengthening this project out. I want to wait for Sandy Bridge to come out, as well.
for example, buy a CPU for $200 in January. Wait 2-3 months and look up the price of the CPU again, it'll be considerably cheaper
How would this be a waste of money? I said before, I'm lengthening this project out. Holy shit the i5 2400 on Sandy Bridge has almost the same performance as the 980x in games! And it costs $200! That's how you get bitten in the ass.

no he's telling you to buy everything at once, because same thing goes for all other components, CPU is just an example
no he's telling you to buy everything at once, because it's the same idea with all components
What about basic things? Like RAM, a Case, or a HDD?
No, buy everything at the same time.
I guess case is an exception, and if you really want to you can buy HDD now but RAM prices will fall but if you think about it staring at an empty case isn't going to teach you anything
:ninja: [editline]16th December 2010[/editline] Holy shit, 2000th post :buddy:
but if you think about it staring at an empty case isn't going to teach you anything
Now your just being a negative jerk...
Now your just being a negative jerk...
He might not be nice about it, but he is right. Looking at a case cannot teach you anything. You have Google at your disposal, you can look everything up. The position of the screw-holes in ATX motherboards, what CAS latency means in RAM, the best money-for-performance parts. Why spend money when you can just surf the net and skim over information to help you make a better choice? (in case I'm not making sense, it's 4.24AM here)

And check your PM box.
Buy it all at once. The only reason to buy early is if a specific piece goes on sale and even that is risky.
I realize that everyone says I should wait, so I will. But no one helped me with the task at hand... Picking out a case.
If you're on a budget, Antec 200/300 / HAF 912
