Okay I just bought a gaming laptop, and it seems I can't play any game at native resolution without extreme framerate loss (even most old games...).
The reason I bought the laptop was for game events with my mates, and for work.
Ex: (Tested on L4D2, but the results on framerate loss is almost same on other games).
Max settings (no AA) + 1920x1080 res. = 20 FPS
Lowest settings (no AA) + 1920x1080 res. = 25 FPS
And this is the funny part!
Max settings (not AA) + 1280x720 res. = 60-70 FPS
Lowest settings (no AA) + 1280x720 res. = Above the calculated limit

My laptop (G74S Asus series) spec:
OS: WIN7 Premium 64-bit.
CPU: Intel Core i7 - 2670QM, 2.2GHz
ODD: DVD Sup.MTI.
Memory: 8GB
HDD: 500GB + 500GB
Screen: 17.3 inch 1920x1080
Graphic card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560M (3GB DDR3 memmory, DX11, 3D Support)
- Driver update: 306.23 LATEST (even tried old drivers and no success)
I have updated every single driver on the laptop, and every single Windows update.
And my graphic card and CPU is not overheating, it's cold as shit!

I've been lurking around on Google for ages and yet I can't find the reason.
Anyone else who got or had this problem or know what's causing it?
I'll just ask if you have checked the power settings... That can be the cause.

I use the Power4Gear High (performance)
Also tried the High Performance too.
According to several websites there's no difference between them.

Never thought of that, I wish it was possible to delete
Higher resolution = Lower framerates
me nithr
It's a laptop, don't expect anything great.
Trust me I have the same one.
Make sure you have it plugged in. Also, you may need to update your Bios
I have a G74SX-A1 and I get fine frame-rate with most games max and at 1920x1080(native screen)
I was having problems before but I had to update a few things, but it was mostly fixed when I updated my drivers. You can always try that, but make sure to get the right one but since you already tried that, I'm not too sure..

I get 80-140 fps on most source games(non-mods and without frame-rate limiter).
I had a similar problem with my desktop. The card wouldn't detect the fact that an application was running and because of the dynamic clock speed, would be underclocked as shit.
This was with my EVGA Nvidia 570. I used the EVGA Precision tool to check the clock speed, which was stuck at 50Mhz (Should be around 700 or so if I recall correctly). I don't know if that tool works with other brands of cards, but I have no doubt there is a similar tool available. Check if the clocks are OK. If they're not it's most likely power saving.
Another thing; you stated that you tried switching driver, even older ones. A while ago Nvidia changed the way their drivers update. There is a bit of a procedure you need to follow to make sure older drivers actually install correctly.
You got a gaming laptop. The specs may read OK, but it's most likely somewhat gimped here and there. Though it shouldn't be as bad as you're describing.
Check if it came with some driver level settings with regards to AA and such.
Check if you actually got the model you paid for. I once bought a laptop but they gave a model with the modelcode off by one letter at the end. The only difference was a gimped GPU. Both models had the same box, same appearance, same specs, just a much worse GPU inside. They just gave me the wrong box...
Lastly, is this a clean windows install? If it's straight from the shop, you might just wanna wipe the drive and start clean, since there might be some crapware that came with it that's causing this.
If it looks like you're gonna be spending more than 5 hours on this, just wipe Windows and start over; it takes less time to reinstall everything than it does debugging stupid shit like this, if its a software issue (which is what this looks like). Especially if its a new machine; it should be the first thing you do anyway if you're gonna use it for games.
Flip side; if this IS a clean install; make 100% sure you got all the drivers you need. My old ASUS laptop needed some weird windows PCI-e utility installed before it would use anything other than the craby mobo onboard chip.
I'll try to update the BIOS again since this was the first time and I might have done it wrong.
If it don't work I will reinstall my whole computer and see.
Will update for further information.
Try using throttlestop to unlock the CPU. Gets good framerate boosts on my G53sw, which is the same specs except a 460M. Also try using nvidia beta drivers and setting the control panel settings of your games to "prefer performance" and "single display mode"
And it gets reasonably warm on both exhausts too, although I run win8. Hell, I'm satisfied with being able to play Borderlands 2 / ArmA II at around medium settings at acceptable frames (40-60) - mine was only $700, anyway.
Yepp, I have updated the BIOS the wrong way. There was an ASUS tool that could update every single driver. Works perfect now!
Thank all of you who participated to help me out!
