Uh the exploit was that the SteamGuard code check was broken and you could just click through.
Valve have since fixed the issue and those with Steam Guard enabled - the additional layer of protection that e-mails you a code whenever your account is logged into from an unknown device - merely lost access rather than exploiters actually getting into their accounts.
Oh right, so it only went as far as resetting your password.
With how many people hate me, I'm surprised this didn't happen to me.

People had the ability to reset passwords and get away with resetting it... The exploiters to do more unless you were an idiot and had steam guard disabled

I always have Steam Guard on, but I understand people who are sick of it always forgetting devices and browsers you've already confirmed.
It's times like these that I'm happy my steam user account name is an email that doesn't even exist
I wonder if they'll allow us to change our OG steam name now.

would rather have to put in a steam guard code than lose my 7 years of steam library progress tbh
cant understand anyone else being different unless you only play something like f2p games that arent tied to your account

Couldn't someone potentially fuck with your steam account then by creating an email account with the name you used?

And things like this are the cost. Security is the choice between spending less effort and being less secure, or spending more effort and being more secure.
Those people that picked the former are now losing however much time dealing with Steam support to get their account back, plus having to deal with whatever the hacker happens to do with their account in the mean time.
decided to use my phone to secure my steam acc just in case

No. Account name is different than contact email. It's just a name and has no bearing on access other than being used to login. People might use a regular name, or their email address, being much easier to figure out or find to exploit this bug with. But who the hell would guess or figure out an email as the account name that no longer even exists
Pretty sure it's probably in a screenshot or two, it's not like it's a big secret, but if you wanted to hit me with this bug before it was patched it's not as easy as people who use the same name as their Facepunch name

I just have a completely unrelated Steam account name from anything else :v:
My Facepunch name, Steam nickname, Steam url name, etc.: gk99
My Steam account name: has four more letters and one more number and only one character is even the same between the two
