I'm curious about the regional variations in English. Which term do you prefer? The government put a tracking device on my car roof. The government put a tracking device of the roof of my car. Please post your preference and where you live, and vote on the poll. I personally think "car roof" sounds unusual and I'm from Seattle, USA.
Just go skiing with a bald eagle on your cock, it's all the same.
The roof of my car is clearly the superior option.
I can't vote because I use both. [editline]28th December 2010[/editline] Should have made multiple choice, or added a "Both" option.

car roof aloof [editline]29th December 2010[/editline]
Just go skiing with a bald eagle on your cock, it's all the same.
I prefer bald eagle of the cock, as I find bald eagle on your cock racially offensive.
Car roof sounds more literary. It's more often used on TV
Car roof is clearly better, roof of the car sounds like it's trying to avoid the subject for whatever reason.
When I took auto-tech the teacher always referred to it as "The roof the the car." So now I call it that.
