• Hi, I know nothing about building PC's and I want to build a PC.

Well basically I'm sick and tired of this outdated electronic doormat. (The highest thing I can run is L4D on Low. With Medium FPS.) I've come to my senses and know that the best gaming PC's are custom built. There's just one problem. I don't really know anything when it comes to building PC's. I don't know what are the best cards, processors, how much RAM I'll need, WHERE is the best place to order these parts I know nothing about, And even just plain putting it together. I thought I'd be better off asking people knowledgeable in this sorta thing that using a search engine. Basically I'm looking for: Being able to run games like Fallout 3/L4D2 on highest settings with High FPS. What will I need for many explosions in Gmod to accour without skipping ? A. Lot. Of Disk space for many, many Gmod addons. Any help on putting it together/Where to order parts. Or just plain everything I need to know. And anything else that will ensure that I wont have to upgrade when new games come out. As a budget. I'm not sure, so let's just start at around 500-600ish for now. Not sure why it is relevant but I live in Northern Indiana. -Thanks. P.S (Also. A nice Monitor would be sweet, seeing as this one is cracked & damaged beyond belief. )
Well an AMD machine well give you good value, so you can have a higher end PC for your money rather than Intel. I bought myself a new motherboard for 80quid with a AMD X4 940BE for 130, an extra 4870 for 100 and 4gb of ram for 40quid so if you have Xfire or msn add me and ill be glad to help
A lot of good advice in these threads: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=785749 http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=779377
500-600$ eh? I'll whip up something.
Yumyum can you head over to my thread and share some ideas with me? :D

[editline]06:45AM[/editline] wait, when are you planning to buy this?
Well my Grandpa can probably pay for the Monitor, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, Etc. The computer itself should be around 500-600ish. Ha yeah you wouldn't even believe. My family got into a fight when my brother was on the computer. Needless to say monitors were thrown, screen is cracked, and I have to view my internet pages in 3-inch-wide windows. Well I know I won't be able to order anything until Saturday. But after that it's ASAP. So this can really do everything I need ?
As long I didn't miss anything, yes. I don't believe I did though. [editline]06:54AM[/editline] Hold on I'll fit in a new monitor. Wow thanks dude. This really helps allot. The best thing is, if I ever need to upgrade anything, it's all easy to do right ? (Or so I hear)
Yea. [editline]07:12AM[/editline] Which build are you going with, the one with or without a monitor?
Probably the one without. Seeing as though it probably has the better parts :) probably probably probably probably. [editline]01:17AM[/editline] Oh wait, does that mean I have to buy the OS too ? Sheet.
what kind of monitor is your uncle planning on buying. because if he's an old uncle, they go with the deals that dont cost a lot.
what kind of monitor is your uncle planning on buying. because if he's an old uncle, they go with the deals that dont cost a lot.
Well any one I pick out really. I just want one that's LCD, and not small. But not too expensive either. Bad-assery is a must.
I've spotted some nice 24" LCD HDMI screens for pretty cheap. Just look around.

Open box pretty much means that the box has been opened, and the quality of the objects inside can't be fully verified.
What is the return policy for open box merchandise? Do open box items offer any additional return policy coverage? * Return for refund within: 30 days * Return for replacement within: non-replaceable Newegg offers a 30 day refund-only return policy for all open box merchandise. If you purchase an open box product you will receive, at minimum, the product itself. Accessories MAY OR MAY NOT BE INCLUDED with open box products, even if the missing accessory is required in order to properly make use of all the product’s advertised functions. No additional return policy coverage is offered for open box items. What is a open box item? Does Newegg.com open box items or does the original manufacturer? Open Box items have been opened and touched and/or returned. Because they originate from different situations, they may or may not include accessories, documentation or retail packaging. Open Box products are sold with a 30 day Refund-Only Return Policy. We recommend that you try out your open box product immediately after receiving it.
Take a look at my thread. It's still on the first page I had no experience in building PCs until today either. But when all that stuff arrived(right around your budget too) I put it together without any major problems. You just have to have a LOT of patience.
Windows 7 RC.
Why not just buy Vista with W7 upgrade now? He'll have to pay for it sometime...
Alright, just take the build with the monitor and drop the monitor for Vista 64bit w/ Windows 7 upgrade. [editline]02:42PM[/editline] This one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116677

Or at least my Grandpa will. So yeah, I'll see if I can order these Saturday. Hopefully the shipping time will be awesome. And really, thanks a bunch man. There is no way I could have figured it out this fast by myself lol. Is there anything I should know when putting it together ?
its easy to put together. the mobo will have a booklet if your not sure where to plug something so you can just look it up.
Is there anything I should know when putting it together ?
If it doesn't fit, it doesn't go there. Building a PC is basically expensive lego that only goes in one way. Also, before you touch any parts, make sure you remove all static from your body by touching a nearby metal object. This greatly reduces the chance of ruining your parts.

you dont have to worry about the shock that much. just touch the case before the other parts. I didnt have a problem when i did it. The guy helping me had built like 400 computers and never shocked his parts.
pretty much that, just touch the case every 10 minutes or something static seems to be far less of a problem as it's made out to be
I work with computers quite a bit, and I don't really touch my case side when i do stuff to my computers. It should do it, but i have not really had a problem.
Is there anything I should know when putting it together ?
The only tricky part IMO is getting the front panel connectors hooked up right. You'll probably have to compare the motherboard manual to the case manual to figure out what goes where (both will have pinout tables for the different connectors).
