There was marketing?
I guess if you count those 'Meet two original characters that follow a theme and a alternate universe version of one of the 3rd Street Saints as their squad leader' videos that popped up here and there.
Apparently Pierce and Oleg are also in it? That's what i read somewhere at least.
Most of the marketing entails, "Look at these bombastic characters kill people!" and the general plot that's akin to 80s-style cartoon shows.
Not showcasing the missions, side-quests, customization, and other goodies seem like red flags.
If it was the same game, but they swapped out of the "heroes-style" gameplay with only one character and just call it Saints Row 5, it would probably be better received.
Don't forget how Johnny Gat is supposed to be the headliner, but was made a friggin' pre-order bonus instead.
No multiplayer, and no character creation is a death sentence.
Why was this game made? When was this game made?
The point of the game is to have a single player game where you switch between different characters on the fly, but the reveal trailer made it look like yet another multiplayer hero shooter.
From there everything went downhill. Trailers still suck at telling what it is, and what they're showing doesn't look very good either.
I don't really get this game. Co-op and crazy amounts of customizaton were Saints Row's distinctive features. From what I've seen of Agents of Mayhem, it's basically "Hey, let's remove what makes Saints Row what it is!". Saints Row needed a reboot, sure, but that's not what I expected.
I only heard about this game because Nvidia pushed a driver update.
How do you fuck up marketing this hard
whats so strange is that volition has been a lot of the same dudes since sr1, you'd think it'd take a gigantic staff change to make the new sr games so different in tone and gameplay but they consciously made these decisions after making the stories of sr1 and 2
Some of the weird decisions they made with SR3 and SR4 might be able to be blamed on the fact that THQ was dying/desperate for money around the release of both games I think, but I'm not really sure about that and it doesn't really explain why AoM is even a thing.
