Isn't the problem with this that league doesn't really have high ground? I remember someone telling me that the ramps uphill and downhill are just textures and everything is on the same plane or something

Sounds really dumb but it's just what i've heard :v:
You can take a look at what the map looks like from different angles with the LoL Replay program.
Unless Riot is up to some mind blowing parallax shit there definitely are elevation changes. It doesn't look that bad from different angles, the bush plants maybe being the one major thing that aren't rendered from the other direction. There's actually a lot that's rendered that doesn't need to be despite what the article says.
One funny detail- the monster hazard signs in front of the dragon are pointed backwards toward the player so they can see them, which actually makes no sense but that probably wouldn't have occurred to you otherwise.

up hill or downhill doesnt change that one side has more advantage because of the camera angle
I do find it easier (in Dota 2) to play on the bottom of the screen.

it is dumb because whoever told you that was talking 100% shit
I do find it easier (in Dota 2) to play on the bottom of the screen.
that's because the camera is pointed slightly towards the dire side so you the radiant have a wider angle of view while laning

They should really work on a new engine, this one was already bad the time they launched the game, but now it's REALLY showing it's age.
They should really work on a new engine, this one was already bad the time they launched the game, but now it's REALLY showing it's age.
The engine literally can't handle proper lighting effects, all of the shadows and lights are baked right on the model, it looks awful.
This sucks, it's the one thing I've hated since the first day I started League. It's so much easier playing on blue compared to purple.

I know, they should just stop everything they're doing, sit down and re-do everything before this gets even more out of control.
I mean it seems like the engine is such a pain to code for, EVERY patch is despair, every month we have a "the champion X has been disabled due to a bug" warning in the game. Also the load times are fucking long.
Guys Riot is only a small company with very limited resources you can't expect them to upgrade their outdated engine and client.

1000 devs are just not enough!

650m dollars last year.

Corporate suit soup
flip the camera for each side, distinguish each lane through color or some other visual difference
would that work? purple lane best lane
The reasoning makes sense, I'll fault LoL for a lot of things, but optimising the game properly for one angle and designing for that is an acceptable design choice, it's not the best choice in the world but there were reasons for it and it wasn't just made on a whim.
I honestly just wish they'd let you zoom out further.
I bet the part of the map you cant see from the one angle is not modelled or textured

Nonsense, I would argue that part of league's sucess is due to it's ability to run modestly well, on really old and outdated hardware, allowing it reach an audience in some poorer countries.
how about another map?

Robust engines are able to optimize games to run on old and outdated hardware as well.
lol's engine is retarded
i can minimize dota 2 all i want, but if i alt tab once in lol it's a pain in the ass to get back in the game
not to mention, i can run dota 2 on medium settings just fine but if i run lol at anything higher than "very low", it lags and crashes like there's no tomorrow

Not to mention that, even with a semi-high end rig like mine, the load is still slow as hell.

they also had problems with the adobe air client itself where it had a huge problem with memory leaking that they didn't address or fix for months. dunno if it's still occurring but adobe air is a bad client.
Adobe Air is terrible in general and the only reason they used it is because they got sucked in Adobe's BS early into Air's life.

That would be great, I've always wondered why MOBAs don't do it.
They're pretty okay with the asymmetry, it seems - in Dota 2 Dire (top right) win more very long games, the win rates are quite skewed.

The win rate in Dota 2 between each side of the map is something like 49% Radiant, 51% Dire. It's nearly perfect.
I bet the part of the map you cant see from the one angle is not modelled or textured
After valve put the cinematic camera into dota 2 you can see parts of the map where the texture and modelling on the map itself is low quality because you were never originally meant to see it but there aren't any holes into oblivion.
speaking of which side wins more, radiant or dire. i remember testing (and several other users testing) whether or not the creeps on purple side (top right) in league of legends were stronger than the creeps on blue side (bottom left). turns out it was true, if you let the creeps fight each other the purple creeps eventually won over the blue creeps and started pushing into towers.
