Holy fuck yes! It's odd because they always implied (even on their steam early access page) that multiplayer was a loooong ways down the road in terms of features.
Time to drag more people into playing this gem!
So is this good or not there are so many zombie games out there I lost track

Well first of all its 2D isometric and secondly this is one of the very few actual 'survival' games where you gotta pay attention to your mood like being depressive, panic attacks, catching a cold, cooking good food and being warm.
Zombies move in 'swarms' so for example a group of about 100 zombies can move from the city part to the village part and they can be pretty aggressive so you gotta scout around to see where the swarm is heading so you have time to leave.
And with a friend you can just do more stuff like building a big fort together and share tasks like hunting food and medicine.

Also the sandbox options are great so if you hate superhuman running zombies you can make them decomposing shamblers, or if you hate fun you can make the infection airborne
that's good I despise fun
Played it
The game is still really missing something, can't put my finger on it, but something is definitely missing
Having a black screen after joining and can't get rid of it.
The game needs a huge map, more guns, and the ability to fix up cars.

Right now it is missing all the survivors and other human related events. With the absence of human NPCs the game feels hollow.

The map IS huge. It's just not entirely finished.

It's got 2 cities though, and if you feel like going on an hour-long roadtrip, a farm.
honestly I wish they'd finish the core gameplay instead of spending time on this right now
honestly I wish they'd finish the core gameplay instead of spending time on this right now
Oh they still are. They are doing multiple things in parallel.
Right now you can opt into two kinds of dev builds for zomboid: IWillBackupMySave (gameplay), and multiplayer alpha.
In the IWBMS builds, there is usually new gameplay stuff. Right now IWBMS b23 was released. This has a gargantuan changelog showing all sorts of bug fixes and new additions such as food cooking progress bars, animated campfires, and you can even build a light source now (only one atm).
They are also going to be adding other gameplay elements in the future such as hunting. Right now the only sustainable way to last a long time is to farm, but soon they will be adding rabbits that will eat your crops.

Yeah. Zombies alone are not enough of an interesting factor.
Needs weather events like brutal rain and snow too.
Oh snap I want this. I neeeeedddd iittttt

i haven't been keeping up too much on this, I know they used to have NPCs, are they planning on adding them back in eventually?
This game will never be really finished, they add absolutely ambitious features but never flesh out anything. This game is promising but the long developement process is already dragging on so long. It's not even that enjoyable to play.

They decided to remove them for now and rewrite them.
Its such a depressing game, even at the beginning, it says "This is how you died".

Opinions.
This game is one of the most fun ones I've ever had the pleasure to sit through. It's challenging, it's got lots of content and as of recent, lots of updates with tons of fixes and more content for every update.
They don't have many "ambitious" features planned, unless you call "NPCs" and "Working Multiplayer" and "Pets" ambitious. Because it really isn't.

I was seeing weather events in multiplayer. Every now and then it would rain, yet it looks like the rain would sometimes desync with the other players. It doesn't seem like being wet gives you a cold anymore. Hope that comes back.
One time it was thundering like nuts but it was only on my game it seems.
It still does need more. I'd like to see snow. I also want to see moon cycles make a return so we can have ultra-dark night again, but until they sync up flashlights (and increase their range) its probably better that it is bright. I would also like to see sleeping make a return.
Okay, there's a plethora of features they have to tweak for multiplayer currently. If you get sick, you're pretty much fucked since you can't sleep and rest it off. Otherwise I had a blast playing this. There's tons of features coming and some already being added. The devs are pretty solid on content and bug fixing.

You still can't deny that the controls are awkward, the combat is pretty clunky. The whole interface is a pain to use and unintuitive. I've played it recently because I got it years ago and honestly I was utterly dissapointed by the progress they made. Not really looking forward to it.

To be honest the controls are fine once you get the hang of them (which shouldn't take very long), the interface is easy as hell and fast.
There's nothing wrong with it from my point of view.

Run it in compatibility mode when starting it up in Steam.
