• Random hitches/freezing

My cursor freezes up for like 2 to 10 seconds randomly every few seconds sometimes, and the cursor freezes up and won't let me move it to my second monitor. This happens every now and then after running my computer for an hour, and my computer is just fine 99% of the time. The only way to fix the random hitches is to restart my computer, and then it works fine again. I've done system restore and my PC's hardware is nearly dust free. I don't know what brings on hitches; every time it happens I'm using Firefox, closing it doesn't stop it, it hasn't hitched when I'm not using it. Specs: -isGateway -3.2Ghz Intel i3 -8GB R.A.M. -1TB H.D.D. -600 watt P.S.U. -NVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti -Two 22in. monitors, through H.D.M.I. and D.V.I. ports.
See if firefox or something else is taking up 100% cpu or ram in task manager when this happens. Are you 100% positive that it doesnt happen when you use chrome or IE or whatever?
Full on occasional system freezes often indicate a failing harddrive. You should get HD Tune and check your S.M.A.R.T data. Also back up important data on Google Drive or DropBox or something.
@Naelstrom It looks healthy, and I backed it up. @taipan I didn't try using Chrome or I.E. I'll try Chrome for a while. I'm fairly sure Firefox isn't running up the R.A.M. or C.P.U. usage.
Your mouse shouldn't lock up if you're using lots of CPU or memory, if your mouse locks up it's usually because Windows is waiting on some I/O operation. Can you give us a list of the things attached to your computer? Things like network cards, GPU's, USB's, etc.
Dual Monitors on NVidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti Peripherals: -Gateway Keyboard, -Gateway Mouse, -Belkin U.S.B. Hub, -Netgear WiFi Adapter. Everything was fine for several months if not years until it just randomly started happening one day. It only happens about once every three days. (More or Less)
I highly recommend connecting directly to the internet via ethernet, and removing the wifi adapter from your computer if you are able. Otherwise, you can try updating your motherboard firmware and various drivers. (Sound, ethernet, gpu, bluetooth, etc) After all of that I'm not sure what's causing the problem, feel free to remove or disable components that could possibly be causing the issue to see if your problems stop.
I can't do Ethernet at my dorm, all they have here is WiFi. I'll run some updates. Thanks.
Wireless internet isn't going to cause the whole system to freeze, I've never experienced it with any wireless device
Sorry I should've mentioned that was unrelated. I have a personal grudge against wireless after I had a bad wireless adapter.
What I just noticed today is that when I go to my second display with the mouse cursor, the cursor sticks to the edge of my first monitor but I can move stuff around with an "invisible cursor" on my second screen.
