• Don't get a 1080p monitor if you're gaming?

So I have been talking to a friend of mine, and he said that if I get a GPU like the GTX460 or the HD5850 I won't be able to run many of the newer games on 1080p. So I said that I would just run them on 720p, it didn't matter to me. So he said then I shouldn't get a 1080p monitor since 720p resolution will look like shit on a 1080p monitor, because unlike TVs, monitors don't upscale input. So what do I do? Do I get a 720p monitor? Do I not any of the GPUs out now? I am very confused and I need someone to confirm this for me.
Your friend is a dumbass.
Kindly tell your friend to stop talking.
Your friend is dumb
That was amusing.
I enjoy my 1920x1080 monitor.
You're dumb.
I enjoy my 1920x1080 monitor.
1280x1024 hell yeahhhh
Beat your friend over the head with the 1080p monitor box.
Fuck all of you, 1920x1440 is the only way to go
3280×2048 WQSXGA hell yeah.
I have a 1920x1080, it looks fine.
For a collegegrad you're not very smart. :downs:
OK so I showed my friend this thread, and he said: "I said MAXed you asshat.." "You can run those games" "MAXED fuck no" He's basically saying that the games not running native on your monitor will look like shitty 16-bit games.

Yes, if you run a game on a lower resolution than your native one then it will look like shit. Well done to your friend, he has played at least one game! Those GPUs will run about any game out now on very high if not maxed at your native resolution.

I used to play Crysis at 1440x900 on my 1680x1050 monitor. No big deal.
I run TF2 on my 9800GTX+ 512MB maxed at 1680x1050 at more than 60 FPS constantly. [editline]01:26AM[/editline] Also the games will not look 16-bit that is a retarded assumption.
It won't look that horrible. I used to play Crysis at 1440x900 on my 1680x1050 monitor. No big deal.
Some games I actually prefer to play at lower resolutions. Counter Strike, TF2, Quake, and Unreal Tournament I still play at 1024x768, it makes headshots easier.
I have a 1920x1080 monitor but run all my games windowed at 1024x768 just because my gfx card is utter crap. If you have a mid to high range card, no worries. If not, you won't be able to play as smoothly but it won't be 10 fps either.

It's been said before but I thought I'd reiterate it. Your friend is an idiot.
They're fine for gaming. But they're too flat to do say text editing or reading on properly. IMHO. I find 16:10 monitors more versatile.

In windowed they will look fine. With a GTX 460 or HD 5850 you can max out almost all games at 1920 x 1080.
So now he's saying future games I won't be able to max out. He sure is confusing.
1080p is pushing it, you might have to lower a setting or two here and there, but it should be fine. And how shit non-native looks really depends on the monitor. And if you enable GPU scaling it should look pretty good.
he said that if I get a GPU like the GTX460 or the HD5850 I won't be able to run many of the newer games on 1080p
Tell him that HD9800 isn't better than 5850 HD
So now he's saying future games I won't be able to max out. He sure is confusing.
He's right, as time progresses they won't be able to run future games as well, but I run GTA4 on medium settings at 1080P on a 9600GT and it still looks awesome. That 460GTX will likely last you ~2 years on all maxed at 1920x1080. Also, as long as you keep the same aspect ratio (16:9 for 1080P) it won't look that bad.
Where's the "cool" rating when you need it?
