Maybe it's because they've released 5 redesigns in the span of 7 years.
Mobile gaming is more of a smartphone thing now, lets be honest here, the psvita and the 3ds dont fit in a pocket.
A drop in price, even a slight one, would probably do a whole load of good for the Vita at this point. I mean, when just a base unit handheld costs more that a home console, that's not a terribly attractive thing to someone looking to play games on the go. That's not to say that the Vita doesn't have a lot of potential behind it, it's just that getting support for something like it won't come easy when there are less expensive alternatives everywhere else. Looking at platforms like Android and iOS, that's pretty plain to see.
They're waiting for the Vita Slim.

Yeah, the 3DS is probably one of their smallest "launch model" portables in ages.
You'd need pretty small pockets to think that the 3DS isn't portable. But the Vita? Even looking at it, it just doesn't seem portable, unless you're using a bag.
I'm enjoying my Vita just because I can replay psp games that needed a second analog stick. It's a pretty useful device too. I've got skype on there for when I'm out of town :v: It definitely needs a better Vita library though. I can only play Disgaea 3 and Wipeout 2048 for so long.
Mobile gaming is more of a smartphone thing now, lets be honest here, the psvita and the 3ds dont fit in a pocket.
i still love my 3ds though has alot of good games
Mobile gaming is more of a smartphone thing now, lets be honest here, the psvita and the 3ds dont fit in a pocket.
They both fit in my pockets! :v:
Is that screenshot from the Vita? Are the graphics that good?
Mobile gaming is more of a smartphone thing now, lets be honest here, the psvita and the 3ds dont fit in a pocket.
Speak for yourself, my pockets are freaking huge.
I love my Vita. The games I've got are great. There just isn't enough of them. I definitely prefer it to using a smart phone for most games because it's actually got physical controls. That's why I think there's still very much a market for handhelds. It's just not as big as it was before smart phones got popular.
Is that screenshot from the Vita? Are the graphics that good?
Yes and Yes.
Is that screenshot from the Vita? Are the graphics that good?
Graphics are quite good. They aren't crysis 3 levels of graphics but it is quite amazing what they have been able to do with a portable.
I love my vita and have a decent sized collection of games already and a backlog of PSP games on it. I'm sad to see it not doing as well as it should, because I still think that there is a place for Handheld systems. Hell, when I was at the Dark Knight Rises premier, I was playing my Vita while waiting for Midnight, and it drew some attention from the people behind me.
Hey Sony, I know the solution: Homebrew.
Hey Sony, I know the solution: Homebrew.
Not the solution. Cool to have, but not what's needed. Sony have always struggled with handhelds though. Even the PSP had little third party support compared to the DS. They just aren't marketable enough to the Everyman.
Even the PSP had little third party support compared to the DS.
I thought this was a blatantly known fact. Devs basically thought that it was a piracy magnet and dropped the fucking platform after a single game.
Hey Sony, I know the solution: Homebrew.
http://www.playstation.com/psm/developer/index_e.html its pretty limited though

BUT IF they're using the same sales model as they've used with the PS3, then they're begging for troubled profits.
It's a bit sad, it's a really nice piece of hardware. Same GPU as the iPad 3, a lot less pixels to handle.

BUT IF they're using the same sales model as they've used with the PS3, then they're begging for troubled profits.
It'll move units. Yeah. But not to the crowds developers want it to. The only reason the PSP continues to sell today is hombrew, and even then, it's largely the older models Sony stopped producing (meaning second hand sales, no profit). And it's largely because of how easy it is to pirate on the PSP, as long as you have the right PSP, and the right firmware, you can hack it. A DS on the other hand kinda requires a special cart to load homebrew, not quite as accessible. Homebrew tends to attract more pirates than players. Third party companies stopped supporting the PSP as much the moment this became evident. it won't save the Vita.
One big downside i see is its not that much friendly for indies, i mean the PSSuit developer program is nice and that but after the "Open" Beta your required to pay 99$ per year, im not saying its someting bad as who wouldnt have 99$ per year? but still its someting i dont agree much , and well the tools your provided with arent that good either to avoid "Hacking" it runs into a virtual machine with limited Frames per second so you gotta test both in your PC and ps vita to figure out the perfomance hit of your models, code etc
it's sad to see how weak handhelds are this generation. i love handhelds (true mobile gaming, not fucking facebook-level games for cellphones), but if this keeps up we might not see a next generation of them :(
What you mean like the games available on phones? There will never be another generation of hand-helds. Mobile phones fill the market too well.
Is that screenshot from the Vita? Are the graphics that good?
The vita can play metal gear solid 4 at 20 fps
Mobile gaming is more of a smartphone thing now, lets be honest here, the psvita and the 3ds dont fit in a pocket.
Absolutely correct, from cold marketing the buzz has gone to the pad/phone crowd now, it's been the first time in around 23 years that the handheld console has been dethroned. It will still sell in the younger age bracket however.
I hope it gets more games. I really want to buy it and play Persona 4:The Golden but it seems like a waste to buy it just for 1 game
I hope it gets more games. Blazblue is all right, though I'm not big on fighters and it has some entertaining gag reel paths. I'm not sure how good Disgaea 3 is since I'm not very far in it, you'll have to ask around if it's good. And to be honest, I solely bought the Vita for Persona 4: Golden but after getting to play some other games while I wait, it's definitely worth the money.
