So I'm buying a GTX 460 and I've seen that the minumum power requirement (stated on the nvidia website) is about 450W. I currently have a 500W power supply and I've been wondering if I should upgrade the power supply with the card to give my PC more "head room". If I do upgrade the PSU, it would be a 600W (which I've found a great deal on) which would most definitely ensure that the PC gets more than enough head room. So FP, if you could kindly reply with your opinions I'd be very grateful.
It shouldn't be a big problem with your current PSU.
I've heard PSUs often have the best efficiency when they're around 80% utilized. A 550W should be enough, based on that 450W minimum. [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] Emphasis on "I've heard"

like 16A
Alright, thanks guys. I've decided to stick with my 500W. You guys don't know how much trouble this has saved me. [editline]17th November 2010[/editline] Alright I have another question that just came up. Does the GTX 460 need 2 PCI-E X16 slots or only one?
One, unless you want to go SLI.
One, unless you want to go SLI.
Thanks man, I nearly had a heart attack when I noticed that my build only had 1 PCI-E X16 slot.
:roflolmao:
Unless it has a really low amount of amps, or is made by a company that uses low-quality parts, you're fine
A 550w PSU can handle two 460's in SLI and Overclocked(Border) You can defiantly run one on a 500w.
No way.
The Corsair 550W can, and so can a handful of other 550W models from good manufacturers.
[img_thumb]http://media.bestofmicro.com/C/A/260938/original/Power%20Draw.png[/img_thumb]
doesn't really mean anything when your 600W PSU only puts out 20A
