And that's why it's gonna fail! Then there won't be anymore prey! Fun!

Most people don't even know what the original was. People can't even buy it anymore to see what all the fuss is about, since it isn't sold anywhere. It was never a big franchise, just single game with a small cult following.

I think you're giving any pull the Prey brand has WAY too much credit.
The thing that pisses me off about Bethesda using this name is that they are only doing it to take advantage of the original Prey fans. They are abusing this for controversy and free marketing.
So they basically admit it's a new IP with the name slapped on for brand recognition.
going to be honest
I'm totally OK with this
it can still be an amazing game in its own right. Just look at the new thief (HAVEN'T PLAYED, BIASED), it's a good game according to reviews that get into the meat of it but the issue people have is that it isn't the originals. Same shit for Bioshock 3, which I have played.
so long as they don't truly fuck over the originals its really not that terrible, like, for example, what Ghostbusters 2016 did. There's a difference between ignoring the originals and literally shitting all over them.

But its only ok if its a good game
This could be its own game without needing the Prey branding.
It's like they just want to make up the cash for buying the title and never getting anywhere with it, sucks.
It'd be like someone bought S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and changed the entire game into a paparazzi simulator.
I'm mostly just pissed off because if the game has no correlation to the original they shouldn't have made my steam games list look like
POSTAL 2
Prey
Prey
Project Zomboid
I hate when games release a installment with the exact same name as that was already out. Like sonic '06. Or DmC.
The original prey 2 looked amazing, i really wish we ended up getting it
“It's not just shooting. It's more like a hybrid game, where narrative meets with action meets with a little bit of an RPG layer. You have some weapons, but you also have lots of other things, including powers that you can learn from the aliens,” Colantonio says. But there will be plenty of alien-shooting, with both conventional weapons and gadgets “that are not meant for combat, but somehow work out in combat.”
God that just sounds so... generic.

you could use this to describe like, a bazillion games lmao

I mean, I can't argue with that logic tbh
thinking about it, unless it follows a lot of the same logic found in the original, then it's basically what happened to Banjo Nuts&Bolts, where it's an OKish game that had another IP slapped onto it suddenly for no reason and doesn't actually have anything to do with Banjo at all.
So... pretty much 1st person Dead Space with parkour and Deus Ex utilities.
I don't think they're gonna get many sales on that schizophrenic a design doc unless the story is Oscar level good and the actual play and playspace are butter smooth.
i'd really like to play the original, but i can't buy it anymore. that combined with this news, it seems a lot like they're trying to pretend the original never happened.
so i don't really care one way the other that this "reimagining" is called Prey. at this point i'm only interested if it's going to be any good or not.
I know we're not supposed to care about this kind of stuff because it's reverse racist sjw cultural marxism and all, but I thought it was really cool how the main character in the first Prey was an american indian guy living on a res and wasn't just another white guy. You don't have a lot of indian protagonists in games--the only one I can think of besides Prey is Turok.
Just kind of disappointed that that element isn't being carried along.

You can actually buy steam keys on G2A and Kinguin

i would rather accept that i can't buy it

:words:
Except;
A: The new Thief game is utter garbage. It's not even so bad it's good territory, it's just mediocirty in every sense of the word. When a game that came out 20 years ago outclasses you in every aspect, it's not worth buying. The only thing it had going for it was the graphics, and it was so bland and boring to look at that nobody talks about it anymore. On the other hand, Dishonored came out and was both interesting to play & look at, and thus one is getting a sequel and the other is not. Don't claim something if you have no idea what you're talking about, IE; the rest of your post. Also the issue isn't that it isn't the originals, the issue is it's a garbage stealth game with no depth or interesting aspects tied to it. It's the lowest tier of linear garbage I've ever set my hands upon in the stealth genre.
B: Bioshock 3 also is garbage, it was blatantly paid off to a point where Gamespot went back and reviewed it AGAIN, giving it a lower score a few weeks after launch. It's easily forgettable and ended up on a bunch of top 100 games of all time rankings, only to be forgotten about like The Last of Us and Gone Home. The gunplay was simplistic at best and the level design was bad in play-ability and believably, including giant railways that go in circles in an enclosed space, endless waves of cops, and then going against the only thing it was trying to say, "RACISM IS BAD", only to go on and have you mass slaughter minorities (Actually classified as such) because the main bad girl was like "Aww damn it, you aren't dead, you can't be a martyr if you're alive" so she tries to murder you.
It is only okay if it's a good game, but it's still a shitty move to re-label something as something else just for sales. Look at Devil May Cry, completely different excluding a few names. Point being, it would have been better to just make a new IP, but I guess Bethesda isn't ready to do that yet. That shows their unwillingness to take a chance on something, which means it probably won't end up doing well, as it's unable to hold itself afloat without another name acting like a life raft.

Which I mean, is reasonable enough, I hadn't really thought about it too much at the time of posting
Though I did think BS3 was [del]great[/del]a pretty fun game to say the least, it was more unique than other shooters to me but it still was a lot more flawed than the original. BS3 has wet dreams that it could be as good as BS1. And it sure as fuck isn't New Wolfenstein or New Doom tier.
[editline]29th July 2016[/editline]
I mean when actually thinking about it, unless it's very distinctly similar to Prey, it doesn't actually have a point of holding the name OUTSIDE of "YEAH, LOOK AT THIS BITCHES, PREY IS BACK BUT NOT REALLY"
God that just sounds so... generic.
to be entirely fair, other than the unique setting and play space of Prey, its actual gameplay was generic shooter.
On my side why I wanted so badly a Prey 2 is just because the Portal and the UpSide Wall walking was my favorite things in this game :D, the story wasnt bad also :)
I miss portals
PS:. I remember the game has leaked 2 week before the release I finished it 1 week before the release :D lol
and now I got it on steam for multiplayer but never finally played :(

The presentation was doing a lot of the hard work, but not everything has to be unique. The presentation was enough to get me through the game and enjoy it.

i wasn't saying that to put the game down, prey is actually one of my favourite games [sp]in fact, i like the game so much i was willing to brave kinguin to get a steam key. i actually got one too, i shit everywhere.[/sp] and i am one of the fans who are butthurt over this game having nothing to do with the first. i was just making a point....though probably a weak one. it can't be dismissed just cause it sounds generic, because how would you describe prey?
"you shoot some aliens, and sometimes you walk on the wall. also, you can't actually die or lose."
