Thinking about switching over to ATT&T max 18 from the highest speed comcast cable internet gets, this is what I get right now http://www.speedtest.net/result/591325502.png My question is, if I were to switch over to ATT&T max 18 dsl would it be faster than comcast cable? (Thinking about switching because comcast has POS customer serivce and our internet and tv went out and it took comcast a whole 3 days to get out here and fix it)
No, AT&T is terrible. I've gotten nothing but shit from them for the past 3 years.
You definitely wouldn't want to switch from Comcast to AT&T. Comcast is really shitty but AT&T is worse.
Verizon is good I've heard, perhaps it's available in your area.
I'm on the Max 18 on, but on AT&T's fiber network. If you would be switching to be on fiber I'd go for it. I have it and it's great. 2mb/s and no bandwidth caps :)
yeah we'll be using fiber optic if we switch
Why does everyone think Comcast is shitty? I have had zero problems with them, have been a customer for 3.5 years.

You're one of the minority then.

they're out for at least 2 weeks a year for me

I woke up once a summer ago to my mom screaming at the tech support guy at Comcast because she couldn't get her e-mail.
I've heard great stories of the tech support there.

2Mb/s fiber optic? What is that shit? That barely qualifies as broadband anymore.
I don't see why everyone rags on AT&T, I've been with them for like 5 years and haven't had a single major issue, speeds are great, no caps, no throttling, etc.

Unless he meant MB.
AT&T is great except they rolled out fiber and they capped the bandwidth at 18 megabit and force you to buy the Tv package to get it. Its fucking Bs, but they have great service I download at least 8 gigs everyday and I have yet to hear a complaint.
Also :ironicat:
Here is a story for you:
I know some people who own Internet KIOSKs all over the US. they used AT&T for a while, and then one day they wanted to take down some lines in one of the airports. The man in charge took down ALL of the lines they had, (disabled), and it took weeks to try to get it back, but instead they switched to another ISP.
That should never happen, and I personally don't like AT&T from some other experiences i had..
:frown:
but if it means something to you, maybe try. maybe they improved.

But they are ~totally~ the same thing

Oh god I love the university system.

Depending on how many are online, it can be much worse, or much better than that.
:v:
But on topic, I've heard pretty good things about Verizon. I don't know if you have it in your area though...
Umm, if you think that's bad, you clearly missed my post :v:.

I have to put up with that every day.
Well the point was that fiber optic implies lots and lots of bandwith. Any fiber optic provider should easily get you 10+.
I'm on a 12/12, and that's one of the cheaper ones, it goes up to 25/25. (Whatever the fuck they thought you needed 25Mb/s upload for I have no clue)

Torrents.
I think Cox might be in your area, and if they are, you will love them. I have no random outages and I easily get an average dl speed of ~2.5mb/s

(I'm uploading some files to MU so I have an upload speed thats much lower than average right now.)

Here is a more accurate example
