I got a new system a few months back and my motherboard (Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H) supports CrossFire. I'm thinking of buying two HD 5770's and putting them into CrossFire. I have been told that the chip that links the two cards come with with motherboard in the box, but I have looked and the chip isn't there. Is there anywhere I can buy it? I'm from Australia so NewEgg won't help.
You just need a Crossfire bridge and your good to go. It should come with the GFX cards..

I know need the crossfire bridge but where can I get it from?
It comes with your graphics card.
FYI, there's no such thing as a "Crossfire chip". CrossFireX support is inside the northbridge, there's no special chip to make it work.

Unless, you were referring to the bridge, yes, it comes with your graphics card.

Well I've always been told it comes with the motherboard.
There's a wire (which I think is what you mean by chip) that comes with the cards to connect them together.
This is what you are referring to.

It connects the 2 graphics cards together from the top. Some motherboards come with it, come Graphics cards come with it. Some don't. They are only a couple of pounds/dollars. Look on eBay or amazon or somewhere.
It should come with each graphics card, so that you use 2 of those
My XFX 5770 came with one, my MSI one didn't.
My XFX 4850 didn't come with one and neither did my Palit 4850. Or my mother board. I had to buy it off newegg separate for like 3 bucks.

This is what I'm after.
Some crossfire setup may not work on a SLI certified motherboard, and vice versa. That can be easily worked around by using a modified driver.

Only 3 bucks??

My motherboard is CrossFireX certified.
Then you'll be hassle-free when it comes to the drivers.
Your motherboard is, but is your power supply strong enough?
how many watts is it?

600w BigAnt.. It's most likely not enough but I'm gonna get a bigger one anyway because I'm going to build another pc.

The box for my Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 Vapor-X says it needs 500W for a single card, or 600W minimum for Crossfire... Your powersupply MIGHT run the 5770's. But there is no guarantee.
It depends on the PSU. If you got a good one, you could probably run it on a 450W.

600W is more than enough for few 5770's

a few? You mean just 2.

No actually, I was able to have a 3-way xfire with 5770 on a 600W PSU

Would have to be a nice quality PSU then, like corsair.

Not to mention 3 6-pin connectors. I'm sure it'll be hard to find enough on anything smaller than 600W

2 molex to 1 PCI-E
2 molex to 1 PCI-E
But that's dependant upon the amount of molex connectors supplied with the PSU, and the amount in use.

That's why for every one of those cable I get, I snip off both of the molex connector and solder them to one connector.
I thought you didn't need a bridge, and that you could just put two cards in and go into the catalyst control center and turn on crossfire mode :raise:
Can't you do that with onboard graphics? Hybrid-CF?
Typically SLI bridges come with motherboards, CrossFire bridges come with the graphics cards.
