• Going to jailbreak my PS3 - is it worth it?

Hi there, If you have jailbroken your PS3 or any device really I really need your help. I am a NOOB at jailbreaking, this is my first time. This site http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-jailbreak-ps3-playstation-3-firmware-3.55-and-install-custom-packages-guide/ Makes it look pretty simple. But of course, once you've done it, there's no going back. So please help me out here. What are the risks? Are there high chances of getting banned from PSN by Sony? Also, what can and can't you do? (PSN updates, PS store, etc.) And of course once the new updates are released, how can I guarantee there will be a loophole to get through? I also promise that I won't be a dickhead with my hacks. I hate hackers when they abuse them online. I like them because they renew the game for me (they are good fun offline with some friends) so I will not abuse them online. Help very much appreciated. In advance, I am sorry IF this thread is late or in the wrong place.
There are no risks or down sides with Kmeau 3.55 CFW+MultiMAN+DNS trick for PSN.

www.ps3-hacks.com and http://www.ps3-hacks.com/downloads/recent it's 100% free. Just takes a regular USB stick.
www.ps3-hacks.com, and it's 100% free. Just takes a regular USB stick.
Thanks man. Will look into it. I assume like most jailbreaks it will allow me to put MW2 hacks on it?
Yep, it sure will. :)
The only thing we aren't sure about is how Sony will react to users. If they loose their various court cases they may throw all their toys out of the pram and ban anyone they consider as using custom firmware via console. If they win, they will probably do the same anyway to be dicks, or might not be as lenient. [editline]8th February 2011[/editline]
Thanks man. Will look into it. I was originally going to put Admin Menu on there but if you have something better please, do tell me [editline]8th February 2011[/editline]
What is there to gain from jailbreaking it? And to lose? I've also been considering doing it.
Asking the same question here, but Jailbreaking will let you put hacks for games legitimately onto them and loads of other stuff, too. Like I said, some are just game hacks, others are functional.
What do you suggest I use? I was originally going to put Admin Menu on there but if you have something better please, do tell me
Nothing. There is no need to use them in MW2, the chances are that if you intended to use them to keep morons out of public matches by kicking, it wouldn't work anyway without you being host, so their hack won't work. And if you are using them in a private match, what is the point? A admin menu isn't much use when you purposely invite people in. Unless you are doing it for ~L33t r4nK haxZZZzz~~~~ in which case, stop, put down your controller and never touch it again. A more useful use of the custom firmware is to play backups of your games. Installing MW2 patches is a simple process with a FTP client and whatever FTP server you please on the PS3 itself. But what the fuck is the point in using hacked patches? They don't do anything remotely interesting. Use the homebrew to play backups, run emulators, etc. Just don't use it on stupid shit like game hacks.

Also you can find other mods that let you ForceHost so your point is invalid IW have very little support now for MW2 because they were kicked by activision, so hacking would be a good idea now as your chances of getting caught are small, especially as Black Ops is out now, AND I am not using Aimbots (even though the menu allows them) online. I would host public parties for my friends to mess around in if they want to. It's like being friendly in a geekish way? So therefore although a whole jailbreak for one patch, and I agree, is a waste, there is no other way of doing it so it isn't too bad an idea if you ask me.
There were more ways of installing them, but they weren't easy. I somehow don't think it is worth risking a console ban for that. My younger brother installed CFW on my PS3 without my permission for the same purpose, and now I will likely be banned if Sony start handing them out. Loosing my PSN access and all the DLC for games (mainly Fallout 3) for a stupid hack is absolutely retarded. And if Sony begin to ban via console, you will have to buy a new one to even connect to the PSN.
