• How many people actually use the home key method of typing?

I was just pondering this because even though I was raised to have my fingers always positioned over asdf and jkl; I never picked that up and now type quite efficiently just by poking the keys with my pointer fingers and using my thumbs for space. How do you guys type?
Ive memorized every key on the keyboard to the point where i can "type" out a message without there being an actual physical keyboard so i dont really need to use that home row nonsense.
I usually rest my left hand on Shift - A - W - D - Space and my right on M - L - ; - Shift. Then I just shift my hands as needed to get the words out, I primarily use the left for most keys. In elementary school my teacher referred to my typing style as 'chicken pecking'.
I've memorized every key on my keyboard so well that I can type shit with my eyes closed, looking up at the ceiling and typing words out with my dick.
I'd like to learn how to type properly but I also play a lot of video games so I'd never ever use it then. [editline]21st May 2016[/editline] And I'm with everyone else. I have the keyboard essentially memorized.

I thought home row was kind of a meme. I just learned it naturally, I suppose my hands flow freely
I thought home row was kind of a meme.
what
-oh nvm- I usually rest my left hand on the wad + shift keys and my right hand where-ever on the right side of the keyboard (I think usually the (h/j i l keys))

If anyone asked me what my old high school locker number was I would never be able to tell them, however if I was handed that exact same lock my hands would unlock it in a heartbeat.
I picked up my style of typing from playing ut99. Left hand stays on the left 1/3 of the keyboard and my right hand gets the rest of the keyboard incase I have to close chat and skeddadle
I type how the keyboard is designed. You use the home row. It makes you much faster.
I type how the keyboard is designed. You use the home row. It makes you much faster.
I type faster then most people and I don't use the home row at all [editline]21st May 2016[/editline] 94 wpm ayyy lmao
I type how the keyboard is designed. You use the home row. It makes you much faster.
132wpm and i was never taught how to type by anyone my hands rest on wasd lol
My left hand stays locked to the 'home' position but on my right hand it's mostly the index finger doing most of the work. kinda weird
My left pinky finger and thumb never leave the Shift and spacebar keys, respectivelly. The rest of my left fingers "hover" around WASD
what
Something often advocated (by schools in particular), but not actually used.
That's that's not a meme dude.
Yeah, just realized, not in facepunch parlance at least
Learned with home keys, got better with shitposting on the internet. Fingers just rest naturally wherever now. Typing is as natural as talking.
I read that the home row system was designed for old mechanical typewriters that would jam up if you typed too fast. Fuck that shit, my fingers are fanned out over my keys like I'm ready to grab the last candy in the bowl. If I had a Cherry Blue/Brown mechanical keyboard instead of a Red, it would sound like I'm firing a damn minigun every time I type something.
My left hand rests on wasd, right hand is usually on my mouse if I'm not presently typing. Except for a few exception keys like shift, I type with only my two index fingers at 80-90 wpm. Call it crazy, but hey, somehow I still type faster than 80-90% of people...so I guess I have that going for me?
7th grade keyboarding class has engrained home row into my brain, I can do nothing else
I just type with two hands of course, I don't care where my hands are resting when I'm not typing. Even in the middle of a post, I can stick my hands up to my ass if I wanted while I'm thinking how I should continue my post, so what?
Ive memorized every key on the keyboard to the point where i can "type" out a message without there being an actual physical keyboard so i dont really need to use that home row nonsense.
Wow I had no idea I could do that. I just typed out a message and my fingers moved around just as if there was a keyboard on my desk. Maybe it is time to get out more. :v:
I type with two fingers mostly :v:
I use it naturally. Never really used it when the school was trying to teach it but I just fell into it as I became a better typist. Obviously I'm not restricted to any specific rules of typing but in general if my hands are stopped in the middle of typing something they'll be resting around the home keys because where the hell else would you want them.
i feel that I can generally start typing from wherever on my keyboard just as effectively
I was taught home row in middle school, but since then I've just kind of went with it as I need to. Sure I definitely make typos but I have a backspace key so who cares. Sometimes I stall on a key, not actual reason why I do, it's like an uncontrollable pause of "what comes next now?" I haven't had my WPM tested since like 4th grade though, the school invested in these keyboards dedicated to teaching us proper typing. Middle school didn't test our WPMs though. I think we did have to type up long documents by the end of class though maybe. It's all a blur to me now, I can type and that's all that's really important.
Is it weird that I like hook my pinkies around the edges of the keys and just use three fingers from each hand? near enter and caps lock.
