• Acer 5315 lid sensor broken

I got a free Acer 5315 laptop from a friend but it has the problem where the screen backlight won't turn on due to the fact that something is wrong with the lid switch (It thinks the lid is closed). I found out that this was the problem since whenever I move a magnet on and then off of where the switch is, the screen will turn on but then turn back off. Is there something I can do to entirely disable the lid switch? It's one of those magnetic ones and not a simple lever so I don't know how to fix it.
Since it's magnetic the best fix, although a slightly silly one, would just be to stick a magnet on the switch. I'd imagine you'd need the part replaced inside for a proper fix

Well, the problem is actually the opposite of that. It thinks that the magnet is there. If I move a magnet onto the sensor and then remove it, the screen turns on but then turns back off.
Well you could go through the pains of opening the laptop and trying to fix a tiny sensor, or just get some velcro and velcro the magnet to where the sensor is when you have the lid open, and move it elsewhere when you close the lid.

Using a magnet over the sensor won't help since the problem is that it "thinks" there is already a magnet present and turns the screen off after a few seconds. *Problem summed up* Basically, the screen will be unlit and when I move a magnet onto the sensor, nothing happens. When I remove the magnet however, the screen will light up perfectly fine for a few seconds but then the backlight will turn off again.
If it's a SMD switch, you can try and figure out which pads on the PCB shorted together cause the backlight to come on, and permanently short them together with a wire jumper, or solder two wires on the pads and extend them outside the laptop and solder a toggle switch on them.
I'm fucking retarded. Ofcourse the backlight will be off when in contact with the magnet, it's supposed to light up as soon as the lid's lifted.

I looked all around the thing and it seems that the only thing that triggers this switch is a magnet. I am pretty sure it uses those hall sensors. I asked a few other people and they said the same thing.
Hello, I have the same problem with Aspire 5735z. I've removed the senson, tried soldering and doesn't work, went to service, did nothing. Eventualy, my Acer performed a miracle and started working after I enoyed him with pressing FN + F6 which basicaly turns on and off the lid. Hope it helps you. Bitzu
