• Buying new video card, need help picking one

Getting a new video card, any recommendations? 1. Must be under $200, though it is preferable to be under $150, as I also need a new power supply 2. Must use less than 500W I prefer Radeon because I'm familiar with it; however I'll probably spring for an nvidia if it makes more sense to buy that. [editline]25th March 2012[/editline] I don't care about playing games on low, as long as I can play the game, only replacing this one because it has serious cooling problems (Idles at 55 Celsius, and that's when it has no dust in the fan)
post a screenshot of Speccy and your current PSU
If you want ATI under $200 the 6870 is a pretty solid card. I think they released the 7XXX line though? Might look into that, know nothing about it though.
post a screenshot of Speccy and your current PSU
My current PSU is 250W, hence why I need a new one. I will post Speecy after school tomorrow.
this is the one i bought a few days ago http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150561 with my new build, i literally run anything at ultra with 40-60fps, including metro 2033

At the measly resolution of 1280x1024 it only gets an average of 32fps, and most people play at a higher res than that. http://www.guru3d.com/article/gigabyte-radeon-hd-6870-review/15 Don't make recommendations based on what performance you THINK that you're getting.

I recommend the gtx 460. It's the card i'm currently using. I can run most of the games at ultra 1920x1080, but some games i need to change the resolution. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125412

I can run just about everything maxed out at 1920x1080 except for BF3; I usually run on medium/high settings.

It does start cranking out tons of heat though.
I have a GTX 460 for sale if you're interested, Spearman. [editline]26th March 2012[/editline] Even though it's only the 768MB version, it still plays games well at 1080p. After some oc'ing, it'll run bf3 on medium/high settings around 30fps. [editline]26th March 2012[/editline] The temps are also very good. It idles in the low-30s and peaked around 65C. When I upgraded video cards, I replaced the stock thermal compound with Arctic Silver 5. I haven't burned in the new paste yet, but the temps should be even lower now.
I'm going to be buying it in a store, because I have no way of paying online The problem is that the store priced it at $200 :/ [editline]26th March 2012[/editline]
post a screenshot of Speccy and your current PSU
[editline]26th March 2012[/editline] Anybody recommend any other cards?
i say save for new computer all together.
i say save for new computer all together.
I don't see anything wrong with mine. Besides the video card.
It's very out dated. It's not worth putting any money into.
Also, the requirement for needing to use less than 500W is easy to make. Even a 6990 uses less than that.
Flat out BS only works when something can't be substantiated or benched, you know.
call me crazy, maybe i got a god card or something. but this is proof of ultra settings. windowed mode so i can take a screenshot..look at the fraps watermark. no oc'ing either.+
Oh look, a screen with absolutely nothing going on that'd show any sort of stress on a gpu.
making a video, brb. Edit: Fraps won't let me keep the FPS benchmark on the screen after the movie, so it wont show, but i take back my statement about 60 fps. it does goto 60, but at ultra, just tested in a high intense shooting/bombing scene, i got 35-45 fps, nothing below 30 whatsoever
Uprising is the least intensive level in the game, especially in the beginning. I pulled 60 FPS on my OC'd 9600GT in the beginning of that level on low, 1280x800, when it'd usually be around 20-30 FPS on Comrades or Operation Swordbreaker.
Storebought video cards are a joke. You pretty much need to order online in order to get PC components unless you want to pay ~$50-$100 extra for a video card, and only get low-midrange cards. I've got a shop that's still selling 250's and 230's for about $150-$200... lol. A card that is several generations old, and is worth maybe $60 now. And that is their HIGH END card!
I can get two 5830s for $60 each a local store.
I can get two 5830s for $60 each a local store.
I doubt this guy is as lucky as you are, seeing as his store is selling a 460 for $200 lol when its worth closer to $130-$140 Though a 5830 is by no means a great card or anything
That's true. $200 for that card is pretty overpriced, and a 5830 wasn't all that great but for the price it isn't half bad.

Just stop embarrassing yourself antid2 and accept that your card doesn't pull framerates near as good as you think/thought it does.
