I want to get 8 gb of DDR3 RAM with the rest of my upgrade, and I was wondering if it is possible to change from Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit using one of those upgrade discs. Has anyone done something similar?
You have to completely re-install the OS to go from 32 to 64bit. You cant just upgrade and keep settings and programs.
You can do a backup of the system and copy your old desktop icons and documents back after you reinstall.
I already know I have to reinstall the OS, what I want to know is if it is possible to use an upgrade disc from a Windows 7 upgrade family pack to get to Windows 7 64-bit.
I think as long as it is the same version of windows, like if the keys are for premium then you can only get the premium version.
Because it's a different architecture I don't think so.
You can do a clean install as long as there is a copy of Windows on the hard drive.
