• Talk Talk - Any good?

So I've decided I want to switch ISP and due to TalkTalk's policy regarding the new draconian laws concerning filesharing I think they're a safe bet. Specifically I want to hear from people who have used TT in the past. Do they cap speeds? Do they send letters regarding downloads? How helpful is customer support? Are the speeds consistent? Cheers FP. Oh and before anyone says go for Be that would be my first choice, but I can't get it in my area. Apparently.
I used Talk Talk for a while, they were nothing special and the download speeds were low for me. I've since switched to Virgin Media and i get my full 10Mb D/L speeds.

We're thinking of going TalkTalkPro, but there's quite a lot of negative feedback. If you have Sky TV, try Sky Broadband (dirt cheap unlimited package, good reviews)
Just buy a line from Level3. http://www.level3.com/

I wouldn't recommend it. From my experience I have experienced nothing but trouble with it.
The obvious question everyone is going to ask is- which exchange do you use, and how far are you from it? For the first question, use this: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php?page=availability-exchange-search and punch your postcode in - for the second, get your actual address and work out how far you are away by the crow.
Leach139 ~ Already done that. I'm about a mile and a bit as the crow flies. Your point on Sky is valid. My friend in Northern Ireland uses them and gets decent download speeds (He lives in the middle of nowhere) and downloads a shocking amount. I'd go for it but my parents are somewhat anti-Murdoch and we're set up with digital TV. LeonTodd - Thanks for the information. What is your line capable of in terms of download speeds? Kizza55 - Cheers. I'll bear it in mind.
From personal experience, a normal 2mb service was boiled down to just 0.5mb within the first 2 months. Even after ringing them countless times to get it sorted it stayed dismally slow, half the time the person on the other end didn't understand what we were saying to them. Perhaps we just got an odd bad batch of internets, but just a heads up.
from what ive had with talk talk, the first year (early 2007) was god awful (kept getting cut off and was averaging about 20 KBPS DL speeds when it did work) but since early/mid 08 then they have been okay. i get around 210 KBPS through my ADSL line. not recommended.
I have no idea, What do you mean?
Maximum attainable download rate. I've pretty much decided not to go with TalkTalk. Thanks anyway guys.
Those USB modems you get with ADSL plans suck. If you do go with TalkTalk make sure you get a router.

I get a really good connection with talk talk, paying for 8 meg and getting 1.5 MB max! It's with a boost, so if you pay a bit extra you can get a really good ping and download speed. Average ping on CS:S is 20.
