Thinking about getting a Verizon iPhone but too expensive

For the past few days I have been strongly thinking about getting an iPhone. However, I am not eligible for an upgrade until around November. That would mean I would have to pay the full retail price of $649.99 for the 16GB model.

We have 4 lines on Verizon and none of which have a data package. I was thinking about getting the unlimited plan that's $30/month. But I've heard that would mean [b]all 4 lines[/b] would have to get the data plan. So that would be $30 x 4 lines = $120/month just for the data for ONE phone, because no one else in my family has a smartphone.

That means we would be have to pay $649.99 for the phone PLUS $1440 for the data plan totaling around $2100 NOT including texts/calls just to get an iPhone. I was wondering if anyone knew a way to get it cheaper.

I don't think it's worth paying so much for an iPhone when you can just get a cellphone and a gameboy..

I don't understand the whole 4 lines thing, but paying that much for a phone is ridiculous. If you can afford it and you really want an iPhone then I suppose go for it.

Well apparently if you upgrade one phone to a data plan on Verizon you have to upgrade ALL the phones even if it they aren't smartphones. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Can you not separate your account from your family members? Surely they don't tie family members together? First I've seen of this and I'm in the UK.

Well, It just makes it easier to be on a family plan.

Pay as you go or something like that would be better suited for you if you want the phone that bad.

In the UK they do so I assume you don't in the states.

You don't have to pay for data on all the lines, you pay for data on the lines you choose to have data on. You also shouldn't pay $650 for the Verizon iPhone 4 considering it's already 8+ months old and a new one comes out by September anyway. Just wait or buy one on ebay...
