Heroes of the Storm on the other hand doesn’t require you to play hundreds of hours to reach that moment. It’s fun from the moment you start playing thanks to some pretty nifty reforms of the MOBA formula.
i don't think this is a good thing at all, the reason why MOBAs are popular is the combination of strategies adds depth and this sounds like theyve really removed a lot of depth

I don't think it's impossible to make a game friendlier to newcomers while still maintaining a high depth of strategy, I'm just hesitant to believe they did it
The penalty for dying and the reward for killing other players is so pointless you might as well sit around killing creeps all game until the map gimmick spawns then whoever gets that wins automatically.

they didnt, theres no strategy involved at all
everyone is beefy as shit, so it just involves stabbing away for ages, no items, xp is global so you can just fuck around, and you can just push for days because mana costs are small while health/mana pools are really high
not to mention you have to pay for bloody everything, its like 8 dollars for diablo
Needs alot of change for it to be a "Triumph" in terms of MOBAs.
alright im watching this stream and it's just fucking WoW battlegrounds with less players and less customization

Well it's not being marketed like a typical MOBA. It's supposed to be a super casual brawling game using Blizzards stable of characters, not compete with the super hardcore MMR-infatuated players of HoN, LoL, or Dota 2.

The issue is that they want to charge money like it is. $8 for one character? That's fucking abysmal.

I have never played a MOBA that makes you buy individual characters, is that expensive compared to LoL?

thats what i like about it. instead of laning for 15 minutes and waiting for your carry to farm, you get to team fight from the start of the game. it shouldn't really be compared to other mobas.
The only thing I like about this is the giant mutant caterpillar zerg that can globally support his allies. That's a pretty interesting character concept if you ask me.

That's like Blizzards thing though.
Everyone with a pulse can reach max level in WoW or beat the Starcraft 2 campaign but there is still genuine challenges to be had in either game, whether it's heroic raiding and high ranked arena in WoW or diamond league and esports in SC2.

It varies from champion to champion, with the MOST expensive being $7.50. I'm not a fan of the model at all, really. Much more a fan of the Dota 'Have every hero, have optional cosmetics' model.

But you can team fight right at the beginning of the game? That's the magic of the genre that HotS is pretty much ripping out is the variety. You'll always end up doing the same exact things in this and that's an issue.

Because HotS isn't teamfight based, it's objective based.

theres plenty of level 1 teamfights in both league and dota, it happens almost every game at 'higher levels' heroes of the storm locks you into that, you cant do anything else but push and do the little objective
it shouldnt be compared to other mobas because it cant be, it's like hearthstone (but somehow 'worse'), it just drills all of the medium and high skill level aspects about a game and packs in blizzard characters, than markets it as a hyper casual game and expects people to grind out the ass or pay for their free to play game
What people forget is that Blizzard never meant for Heroes of the Storm of be a super hardcore "moba", they've always marketed it as a fun casual game that you can play some quick games on your lunch break.
I have never played a MOBA that makes you buy individual characters, is that expensive compared to LoL?
New champions in League of Legends cost about seven-ish dollars.

i don't see what you're talking about. you say it removes skillful elements from the game, but it doesn't really? farming gold and getting items doesn't somehow high level play. there are objectives, yeah, but it's similar to roshan. getting the objective helps a lot, but it definitely won't win you the game for getting it. also, there is strategy and builds even though there are no items. everyone has a choice between 2 ults, and you can pick from 2-4 talents every level that can give you new abilities or change your existing ones. i think you're just ragging on it because it's made by blizzard. it's just a fun game, there's no need for it to be for super hardcore competitive play anyway.

Correction - all champions are $0. You can buy them with real money, but I don't know a single person who does. I don't know if it's the same deal with hots, but you shouldn't have to unlock a gameplay feature with real money.

You need like 50 games worth of ingame currency to buy the more expensive heroes. You shouldn't have to grind games for weeks to unlock gameplay features either.

You make it sound like a lot, but you can easily have enough to afford every new champion that comes out even if you only play like a 10 minute bot game a day to get first win of the day (which is a big boost in IP, the in-game currency for buying champions and runes). I'm just assuming you've never played here considering that statement but honestly it's really not bad. You can definitely earn champions way faster than you can master them, and the leftover ip you have you can use to buy runes (which CANNOT be bought with real money)
i don't think this is a good thing at all, the reason why MOBAs are popular is the combination of strategies adds depth and this sounds like theyve really removed a lot of depth
I think a lot of "depth" from MOBA's come from obfuscation.
There's obviously a lot of skillbased gameplay involved, but no matter how skilled you are, you will be shit if you don't know how to build your hero. Since rounds take a long time and a single 'noob' can screw it up for the rest of the team, this leads to some pretty toxic communities.
That's kind of the reason I dislike MOBAs.
Is it just me or is everyone here juding this game as if it was DotA?
What possible rulebook states that a MobA game has to be hardcore and appeal to your preferences when you've already got DotA2 and LoL out there?
Heroes of the Storm isn't even trying to rival with those games at all, yet your arguments directly compare it to those games and call it worse because it isn't like them.
I think Heroes of the Storm looks fantastic, the ability system is really cool, getting a bunch of options when you level up that completely changes the role of your hero and objectives that will turn the game in your favour. It's a laid back and relaxed MobA that anyone can play when they feel like relaxing a bit.
I still don't see who the target audience for this kind of game is. We already have so many dota-style games.

Too bad you don't need too lel.

People who are like me, and simply can't get into DOTA because it's too colmplicated and competitive with all that meta-game thingy, when all I want is to play a game and have fun. And this game seens to deliver it.
I have never played a MOBA that makes you buy individual characters, is that expensive compared to LoL?
Not really, some champions are easily more expensive than that
Unless its changed, I quit the MOBA scene a few years ago.
i don't think this is a good thing at all, the reason why MOBAs are popular is the combination of strategies adds depth and this sounds like theyve really removed a lot of depth
LoL and Dota 2 already have the MOBA genre by the balls. The only way to compete with them is to offer it in an accessible way. Hearthstone is a super simple to understand and play CCG, way more so than others, and even Pokemon. The whole appeal to Hearthstone to me is it IS that simple to get into, and it still offers depth
I was watching Giant Bomb's Unfinished of it, while I can't claim to be anything of an expert past the basics of DOTA 2, the game looked abysmal.
Mostly because it looked like it was taken from 2005 era game graphics.

First: What the heck does graphics have to do with anything?
Second: It doesn't look bad.
