So far it seems like the alien things are just giant bullet sponges, which would get boring really fast.

It's gonna be just like l4d's tanks: you look like you can wreck serious shit but good luck hitting (and probably not even 1-shotting) players who are faster than you and down your HP constantly.
Well, considering that this is just one of the monsters and we haven't seen any of the others, we can't really be sure. The other monsters could play completely differently from this one, with different strategies needed to play as (and against) it.
i personally hate when games have strong enemies that take too long to kill, but this looks awesome so maybe it will be worthy.
2K clearly doesn't think so, putting it out a week after Borderlands the Pre-sequel and on the same day as Battlefield Hardline, you can kiss any mainstream appeal goodbye.

So far they've revealed two. Both are completely different but still look like giant damage sponges.
Watching gameplay, both sides seem like they take way too much damage to kill.
Another Titanfall. Solid idea, but it lacks variety.

Considering this is from the guys who helped make L4D, you would think they took that problem into consideration.
Every thread for Evolve I've seen people call it out for looking like it's going to get boring or repetitive quick and in the same breath applaud L4D, which makes no fucking sense to me. Multiple alien classes, multiple human classes, what sounds so awful about L4D: Aliens?

didnt they already say there were gonna be multiple creatures, multiple maps and lots of alien wildlife?

I dont know about that. Everyone i know is pretty hyped about Evolved more than that crap Hardline.

Yeah but the average Joe Walmart-Shopper probably recognizes Borderlands and Battlefield before Evolve. I hope it does well though, I'm glad to see some new IPs.
I have to admit, the game idea is fascinating, but I doubt they'll be able to make the game interesting enough with only the single game type.

dead in the water
I personally couldn't enjoy this playing as the alien. I'm really, really bad at asymmetric gameplay.
So far they've revealed two. Both are completely different but still look like giant damage sponges.
Wait, when did they reveal the second one?
sounds a lot like many wc3 game modes honestly
it sounds like this would just get boreing especially when it solely depends on the person playing the creature
Wait, when did they reveal the second one?
E3 i think.
unless there's a vs mode like in l4d2 it can get boring pretty quick.

Evolve is totally versus-based. One player controls the monster that the other four fight.

so it's just tank mode ( but alien )
Even the concept of "L4D, but just with tanks" passes because there is definitely a demand for those fun moments exclusively. Cut everything else, and focus on nothing but a boss fight controlled by a player. I can't really see how that's not fun.
[editline]24th June 2014[/editline]
And there's a whole lotta shit that the alien has to do to survive, like eating and stuff iirc to gain power or something- it has a more depth than just Mouse1 for Melee and Mouse2 for Throw Rocks. That and you know different classes and abilities than just shoot.
I wonder if the people making these comparisons have seen the recent gameplay footage?
The game seems like it'll be tons of fun for 1 week. There's no way I'm paying full price for it. $20 tops.

That's what lot of people said when they found out that L4D had only 4 campaigns.

l4d is the perfect example of a game that gets boring way too quickly though

Oh, is that why it's been one of the most active games on Steam since its release?
Nearly every review of this by people that have actually played it seems to have one thing in common:
They don't like how the game entirely revolves around the monster running away until it hits max level. Without incentives to do otherwise, that's all this game will ever be. There's absolutely zero reason that I am aware of to ever fight anyone unless they are running around by themselves for some idiotic reason. Even 3, sometimes 2, are too much for the monster to fight at low levels. That means that you can't even capitalize on somebody making a huge mistake because they just respawn.
Right now it seems like just running is not only the safest way to play, but the one with the best rewards. That needs to change or this game will be an absolute flop one month after launch.
I'd say the game would be tons of fun if the creature changed depending on your actions, which would make the game much more unpredictable and fun: the ones playing as the humans would have to form strategies based on what the creature becomes (and being able to predict the changes by exploring the environment), and the creature would adapt (evolve) into another form to outsmart them; a costant game of wits.
Of course, the evolution options would need to be plenty to keep the gameplay fresh but not too many: not only because it'd confuse players, but also because I figure it'd be extremely difficult to balance everything.
So far we've only seen one form of the monster, so I'd like to think they're saving up that aspect for the game's release or a later announcement to surprise everybody. I hope that's true, this is a fantastic concept and it'd be a shame if they dropped the ball with this huge opportunity. The game is called "Evolve", come on.
