Why is there a bunch of crap threads in GD?

This has been going on for some while, loads of silly threads and crap threads that seem to stick around while the more popular threads are not seen as often.

It just seems awfully unorganized and I do not understand why it is like this.

Not to tell mods how to do their job, but if there's a shitload of crap threads in a forum, wouldn't it be better to delete them rather than just close them? If they're closed, they'll still take up a ton of room on the page.
