FREE horse armor?? are these guys crazy? they could be making million off that horse armor
Don't get me wrong, this is pretty great but it looks like a pretty obvious strategy to win the hearts of their fans. If this would all be in the main game, nobody would much talk about it. Basically they create this illusion that this is an added bonus instead of already being in the main game. "Oh, they release 16 dlcs for free? CD Projekt Red is so much better than those other evil developers!!"
Well, that's a nice buying incentive. Some free cosmetic / customization bits tossed in with the game and a few bonus quests? Sounds nice. Of course it could just as easily been part of the main game, but this makes it look like they're being nice people.
you know the reason most DLC exists is because they start developing it after the game has gone gold, so it is too late for the content to put in the game. just because it's planned, doesn't mean there is some kind of conspiracy behind it, it just means it is planned. you can be skeptical if you want, but there's a point where it's just paranoia.

They've shown that they could market this content off as DLC, but are choosing not to. They really don't need to do anything to win the hearts of their fans or other people. They've already done some amazing shit and are one of the most anti-scummy dudes around.

Why can't they include that content in that update, huh? Personally, DLC/expasions should only be excluded from the main game if their budget isn't a part of the game's main budget (which probably is after the game is sold in stores).

There's often DLC and bonus shit available on day 1 or only to Limited Edition buyers. Sometimes extra content is already on the game's disk on in native files and has to be unlocked by paying for it.
I'm not saying it's always developed after the games gone gold, just in most cases. obviously stuff like on-disc DLC is bad and it always gets attention in the media when it is spotted. they have updates on launch day because when the game goes gold, they can't update it, they're putting the game onto discs and servers at that point. anything they fix after it's gone gold has to be a downloadable update.

Angels in disguise as Saints. Could just as easily monetize but these guys? Nope.
